Admiral David Johnston, the chief of the Australian Defence Force, this week issued a thinly-veiled demand for not just higher military spending but the faster development of a war economy.
More than that, Johnston declared that Australians had to βreconsiderβ the country as a βhomelandβ from which to conduct combat operations for the first time since World War II. During that global conflict, the continent served as a critical base for the US war against Japan across the Indo-Pacific region.

πΈThis day commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles on the fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Christ. According to the Gospel, the Virgin Mary and the apostles gathered in the Zion chamber, suddenly a noise was heard from heaven, and the apostles began to speak in different languages. Then about 3,000 people believed in Christ and were baptized.
πΈThe holiday symbolizes the unification of all peoples in the Church of Christ. The lost connection with God and with each other is restored. The Day of the Holy Trinity reveals the secret that God is One, but in Three Persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
πΈOn this day, it is customary to decorate everything in the churches of the Russian Orthodox Church with fresh greenery and birch branches. This tradition is connected with the fact that during the descent of the Holy Spirit, the Jews remembered the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai.
πΈ Many countries have their own traditions of celebrating this day. In Italy, it is customary to scatter rose petals from under the domes of the church. In France, trumpets sound during the service in memory of the strong wind that arose on that day. And in England, processions are held accompanied by brass bands and choirs.
