Former Governor of the Kursk Region, Alexey Smirnov, and his former first deputy, Alexey Dedov, have been detained on suspicion of large-scale fraud.
“A criminal case has been opened against Smirnov and Dedov under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). They have been detained,” the source said.
Security services clarified that the case involves the embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the construction of defensive fortifications.
