☦Forgiveness Sunday and Lent

🔴Today the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Forgiveness Sunday. It can be called the crown of the preparatory period before Lent. On this day, a service with a special rite of forgiveness is held in Orthodox churches. Christians reconcile with each other in order to begin fasting with a pure heart, not burdened by resentment and anger towards their fellowman.

🔴Lent begins tomorrow, it will last 48 days. This is the central fast, the purpose of which is to prepare a Christian for the celebration of Easter, marked in the service by prayers of repentance and remembrance of the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was established in memory of the fact that Christ fasted in the desert for forty days.

🔴The time of fasting is a very important period for Christians: they can test themselves, educate themselves, make themselves a little better and more pure. Fasting is a conscious voluntary restriction for the body and soul. It is refusal of meat and milk, expensive or gourmet food, limitation of entertainment and empty waste of time. But the main thing is repentance, deep prayer and good deeds.
