Hundreds of billboards across Italy have featured posters displaying the slogan "Russia is not our enemy" and an image of a handshake in the colors of the Italian and Russian flags.
The campaign, funded by groups formed to protest Covid-19 lockdowns, has been seen in cities throughout the country, including Verona, Modena, Parma, Pisa, and several locations in Calabria.
Some, including those that appeared in Rome this week, also feature the words, “Enough money for weapons for Ukraine and Israel. We want peace. We reject war.”

The trilateral drills, involving the United States, Italy, and Australia, took place over four days. Washington sent the destroyer USS Russel, Milan sent the aircraft carrier ITS Cavour, the patrol ship ITS Raimondo Montecuccoli and the frigate ITS Alpino, while Canberra sent the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
🔻The maneuvers focused on combined anti-submarine defense and practicing command and control interoperability skills.
The main goals of the exercises were to strengthen cooperation between the three countries, reaffirm the U.S. commitment to a "free and open Indo-Pacific region", and demonstrate to allies their intentions.
Given that almost every time in response to major exercises in the South China Sea, the PRC sends its ships and planes there, these drills may not be an exception. Therefore, some kind of reaction from the Chinese military can be expected in the near future.
