Asked 4 AI models why Nvidia would pay THAT much for Hugging Face. The consensus was surprisingly strong.

It’s not really about the models. It’s about controlling the AI stack.

1. Own the “GitHub of AI”: Hugging Face is where developers discover, download and build with open source models. Own the distribution layer → influence developer defaults → strengthen CUDA.

2. Hedge against OpenAI, Anthropic, Google & Amazon. They’re all building custom chips to reduce Nvidia dependence. Open source AI still needs massive amounts of compute.

3. Get back into cloud. Hugging Face already has a compute rental business. That gives Nvidia another route into cloud infrastructure and potentially a way to absorb idle capacity Nvidia has helped finance.

4. Move up the stack. Nvidia started with chips. Then CUDA. Then networking, systems and infrastructure. Hugging Face pushes them further up into models, software and developers.

But GLM 5.2 raised the most interesting point: Commoditize the complement. Make AI models and
