So unless you were a white person who belonged to a wealthy family, you were pretty much living in severe poverty, starving most of the times, and lived in horrible conditions

• Study your maps and study the land through exploration. Get to know the flora and fauna and where to find them.

Here in the UK, Ordnance Survey maps are the best you can get and you want to go for the 1:25000 scale explorer series. They're about £9 each and you can get a half decent orienteering compass for less than that on Amazon.
