Ansuz is the Rune of the Ancestors or Ahnen - a Blood memory rune and rune of the Gods. We also know this rune as Os - a name meaning 'God' and a prefix which has survived in many English names such as Oswald, Oswin.

The root of the Ansuz rune is in the Proto-Aryan word *ansu, which means spirit. Thus our ancestors (ansuz) are always with us. Their genes are in our blood, their spirit form the Folk-Soul.

The ancient Germanic tribes used Ansuz to describe the gods - but only those whom they worshipped themselves. Alien gods were never afforded such titles. This is because the various folk-tribes of Europe descended from the various Gods of Europe and our gods and goddesses can be counted amongst our ancestors. The original meaning of the word 'god' comes from the Proto-Aryan *ghut meaning 'that which is invoked'. Thus the belief in our gods and the belief in our folk are inseparable.

The tradition in America with kids dressing up in costumes to knock on doors and ask for candy for Halloween is the same we have in Sweden for Easter, some areas on this day but most kids will be out on Saturday. They dress up as witches, which in turn looks like old British Ale wives. Our traditions have changed over the years but in some form they are still around in every country where Europeans live. We have forgotten why we do it but we know it is important to keep doing it. We do it for the kids, for them to remember and pass it on to their kids. But do we ever stop to think about why traditions are important? It's not religious reasons, no religion says we should dress up as witches. No, we do it for tribal reasons. Traditions help keep our tribe together. Sweden, Australia, USA... distance doesn't matter as long as we keep our traditions alive. We are family.

Creating or destroying is a subjective viewpoint. Are we creating something out of wood or are we destroying the tree? Both. Nothing can be created without also destroying something. Likewise, nothing can be destroyed without something being created. This is a law of nature to ponder.
