Carter found fans within the equipment of the tomb, which would have been very practical to use in the hot Egyptian summer.

The title β€œFan Bearer of the king” was a very important title in ancient Egypt held by influential officials.

This fan originally held ostrich feathers attached to it. The palm of the fan is decorated with the birth and throne names of the king. Two vultures on either side represent the protective goddesses of Upper and Lower Egypt.

Born on 31 October 1933 Queen Nariman, the second wife of King Farouk, and sat on the throne of Egypt next to him on May 6 1951. She is the mother the crown Prince Ahmed Fouad, who came to the throne at only six months however he didnt rule. A small silver frame with a portrait of Queen Narriman from the collection of NMEC.

This item would have been part of the priestly garment of Tutankhamun. Small bronze rings at the back would have sewn the head to a cloth robe to complete the look.
The wooden gilded head is carved in the shape of a leopard, with inlays of colored glass and crystal. Tutankhamun’s throne name, Neb-kheperu-ra, is carved into the leopard’s forehead.
