Analysts report that outgoing congressional leadership are attempting to prevent the new Semilla (centre-left) deputies from being sworn in. Legislators have been locked inside Congress, with protesters outside denouncing the moves by Congress as a coup.

President-elect Bernardo Arévalo (Semilla, centre-left) has stated that he will be sworn in as planned, 25 minutes from now.
