Judge accuses Trump administration of trying to undermine judiciary

A federal judge on Thursday rejected the Justice Department's bid to remove her from a case challenging one of President Trump's executive orders, accusing the department of attacking her as part of broader campaign to try to undermine the judicial system.

The order from U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, nominated to serve on the federal bench during the Obama administration, denies the department's effort to disqualify her from the lawsuit over Trump's order punishing the prominent law firm Perkins Coie. Earlier this month, Howell said the order likely violated the constitution and temporarily blocked enforcement of it.

U.S. sees large rise in border seizures of eggs, while fentanyl rate falls

With egg prices soaring due to the bird flu outbreak, border officials say they're catching more people attempting to bring eggs into the United States illegally. In fact, sharp increases in egg seizures are outpacing border officials' interceptions of deadly fentanyl.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said this week that seizures of raw eggs have risen by 48% at entry points along the northern and southern borders, compared to last year. CBP agents have been especially busy at some ports of entry: "The San Diego Field Office has seen a 158% increase in egg interceptions" since the last fiscal year ended in September, the agency said in late February.

Federal judge prevents Trump administration from dismantling CFPB

A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from dismantling the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and ordered that all terminated employees be reinstated.

The temporary injunction from Judge Amy Berman Jackson at the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., also prevents the administration from firing any more CFPB workers or from deleting any of the agency's data or records, as part of a sweeping ruling to protect the agency.

USAID terminates nearly all its remaining employees

The Trump administration is terminating nearly all of the remaining 900 employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development, in a final reduction in force.

Virtually no one will be spared, not even political appointees, according to two senior USAID officials, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on behalf of the agency. Staff members were ordered to leave "the front office" by 1 p.m. on Friday for reasons that are not clear, the officials said. But they may still be asked to continue working for a few months.

No survivors aboard plane that departed Iowa airport, crashed in Minnesota, police say

A small plane traveling from Iowa crashed in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, on Saturday, killing all on board. The SOCATA TBM7 aircraft, which departed from Des Moines International Airport, was en route to Anoka County-Blaine Airport when it crashed at 12:20 p.m. The plane originally began its journey in Naples, Florida, before stopping in Des Moines. FCC chair opens investigation into Disney and ABC over DEI practices

Brendan Carr, who was picked by President Trump to chair the Federal Communications Commission, said he's ordering an investigation into the Walt Disney Co. and its ABC television network over concerns that they are "promoting invidious forms of DEI discrimination," referring to diversity, equity and inclusion practices.

Delta plane and Air Force jet ordered to maneuver to avoid collision near DCA airport

Federal aviation officials are investigating a close call between a Delta Air Lines passenger plane and an Air Force jet outside Washington, D.C., that triggered a collision warning and "corrective instructions" from air traffic controllers. The incident came nearly two months after a fatal collision at the same airport between an airliner and an Army helicopter.

The latest incident, Friday afternoon, occurred while four U.S. Air Force T-38 Talons were en route to Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia for a flyover, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. A T-38 Talon is a two-seat supersonic jet used to train pilots, according to the Air Force.
