Optimum Moisture Content (OMC):
It is the moisture content at which a soil reaches its maximum dry density during compaction. This means the soil becomes most dense and strong when compacted at this specific moisture level.

Maximum Dry Density (MDD):
It is the highest dry unit weight (density) that a soil can achieve by compaction at its OMC. It shows how dense the soil can become without water-filled voids.

---

Why It Matters:

Used in road construction, embankments, and earthworks.

Helps achieve strong, stable soil layers.

Determined through Proctor Test (Standard or Modified) as per ASTM D698 or ASTM D1557.

---

Simple Example:

Let’s assume a soil sample is compacted in a lab at different moisture contents, and we calculate dry density using this formula:

Dry Density = Bulk Density Γ· (1 + Moisture Content Γ· 100)

---
Total Formula: Dry Density = Bulk Density Γ· (1 + Moisture Content Γ· 100)
