Durga Puja is all about peace, prosperity and happiness except one thing. Every year, the mode of transport chosen by the Goddess for coming to Earth indicates the fate of the year. The most blessed mode is on an elephant. Horse brings destruction to crops, the boat brings floods and the palanquin shakes the Earth.
This year (2020) Mahisasurmardini arrives on a palanquin and departs on a boat.
her arrival on the palanquin indicates plague. The boat heralds flood but leaves fertility and a high yield of crops
Meaning when Durga Devi has come there is plague (COVID) but she leaves us with good news of high yield

Probably the only idol in the world that was made using three metals: silver, copper and brass. Here the face of the Goddess is made of silver, the rest of the body is made of copper and the cloth is made of brass. The melting points of these three metals are different. There is no welding anywhere on this idol, it is an unbroken idol. The same feature is of the lion below the goddess, the whole body is of copper and the ayal is of brass. Even today, attempts to make such idols have failed.

SAHASRAPHANI PARSHWANATH-This unique 1500 year old idol of Parshwanath in black stone with a halo of 1008 interconnected snake hoods is a must see. During the ritual anointing, milk travels through a maze of tubes to anoint the idol's head and shoulders. Hidden in an ash filled pit to escape religious persecution, the idol was rediscovered in the 20th century. The Jain Temple on Itangial Road, Bijapur where this idol is placed has now become an important pilgrimage centre.

On the occasion of Dussehra thousand of people (lenghty queue upto 3-4 Kms is seen) to WORSHIP RAVANA at the Dashanan temple in Kanpur for the annual ritual chanting "RAVAN NAMAH".
The temple is only opened on the day of Dussehra and after worshipping Ravana, the temple is closed for the entire year. Devotees offer ridged gourd (taroi), flowers and mustard oil lamp to Ravana for seeking the blessings and good luck.
