Sharada Temple – Teetwal, Kupwara (Kashmir)
The Sharada Temple in Teetwal, along the Line of Control in Kupwara district, is one of the most sacred shrines of Kashmir.
It marks the spot where Maa Sati’s right hand fell, making it a revered Shakti Peetha.
For Kashmiri Pandits, Sharada Peeth is not just a temple but a symbol of their spiritual roots. It is counted among their three holiest pilgrimage sites, along with the Martand Sun Temple and the Amarnath Cave Temple.
Mangala (Mangalya) Gowri Temple – Gaya, Bihar
The Mangala Gowri Temple in Gaya is revered as one of the 18 Mahashakti Peethas. It is here that Maa Sati’s breast fell, sanctifying the site with immense divine power.
A unique and distinct feature of this shrine is that there is no idol installed inside the sanctum. Instead, the goddess is worshipped in a symbolic form, making it stand apart from most other Shakti temples.
Worshipping here grants prosperity, marital harmony, and liberation from worldly troubles.

Do you know where the unique Garuda temple is?

In our Sanātana Dharma it is common to see divinity in every living being and object. Garuda is a species of bird. According to the Puranas, Garuda is identified as the vahana (vehicle) of Lord Vishnu. Garuda also has a glorious temple. It is believed that couples without children who visit this temple will be blessed with offspring.

Because of this, hundreds of devotees visit the temple every day. Actually, this temple is located not elsewhere but in our Karnataka, in Kolar district — in a village about 18 km from Mulbagal taluk. The idol in this temple is said by locals to be unique in the whole world.

Let us briefly learn about the glory of that temple.

1. It is a glorious temple of Garuda
Nearly every village in India has a Vishnu temple. But temples dedicated to Vishnu’s vehicle, Garuda, are few. One such temple is in Karnataka. Because this temple was not widely publicized it did not gain much prominence earlier, but with improved transport links recently the number of devotees visiting has increased.

2. Vishnu’s vehicle
The principal worship in this temple is of Garuda, the vehicle of Vishnu. Locals say the Garuda idol here is unique in the world. The Garuda is shown with one leg folded and standing on the other, and Lakshmi is on his left arm. Moreover, snakes act as ornaments on this idol.

3. Local legend
When Ravana was abducting Sita, a Garuda bird began fighting Ravana in the area where the temple now stands, and in that combat the bird finally died. At the bird’s last moment it chanted “Rama… Rama…”. Seeing this from afar, Rama granted the Garuda liberation and is said to have blessed the place to become an important sacred site. Since then the area has been known as a holy place.

4. Wishes are fulfilled
Usually couples without children particularly visit this temple. Locals and people from surrounding villages believe that those who perform puja here will certainly be blessed with children.

5. Hanuman idol that stirs devotion
In the temple precincts there is a Hanuman statue that enhances devotional feeling. This statue faces directly toward the Garuda idol, as if they are looking at each other.

6. Where is it?
This glorious temple is in Koladevi village, Mulbagal taluk, Kolar district, Karnataka. Childless couples are encouraged to visit this temple at least once.
