*Aigandapura Dharmeshwara & Makali Bheemeshwara Temple*

Dharmeshwara Temple is located at Aigandapura arpund 30 kms from Bangalore near Nelamangala.

During the Chola Dynasty, Aigandapura was a celebrated Agrahara. Even today Karga festival is celebrated here on the ninth day of the hindu calendar. People around this area believe that Pandavas visited this place during the Vanvaasa.

There are smaller shrines within Dharmeshwara temple dedicated to Nakuleshwara, Sahadeshwara, Arjuneshwara and Kuntigudi. The Bheemeshwara temple is spread out across the road and is on slightly higher plane.

Makali is a place where Bheema (Mahabharata) passed through after visiting Aigandapura here he consecrated a Shiva Linga.According to the priest, Bhima was angry with his brothers for losing in gambling. Hence, Bheema consecrated linga a few meters away from the Dharmeswara temple.

The priests here say the place was later converted to Bheemeshwara temple. This temple is located on banks of Arkavathi river. There is a gaint footprint of Bheema also called as Bheemana Hejje along with marks of small hole which they believe was made when Bheema played dice with his brothers.

It was constructed by Raja Raja Chola in the 10th century. Except for the pillars, which are adorned with beautiful carvings of birds, peacocks and dancers, there is no other structure of Chola architecture in the Temple. It is said that the Pandava brothers along with their wife Draupadi came here during their vanavasa and stayed here for a few days, worshipping Lord Shiva.

A beautiful idol of Nandi can also be found here. A Maruthi pillar is installed in front of the footprint.

*Shri Durgiana Temple- Amritsar*

Shri Durgiana Mandir is a Hindu temple situated in the city of Amritsar in Punjab. Though a Hindu temple, its architecture is similar to the Sikh Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). The temple derives its name from the Goddess Durga, the chief Goddess who is worshipped here.

Also called the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, it is dedicated to goddess Durga and a large part of the temple is also dedicated to Hindu deities Laxmi, The Goddess of wealth and Narayan.

The original temple is reported to have been built in the 16th century. It was rebuilt in 1921 by Guru Harsai Mal Kapoor in the architectural style of the Sikh Golden Temple.

*Origin and Significance of the Temple*

The temple is named after Goddess Durga, who is worshipped as the supreme power and mother of the universe in Hinduism. The temple also has a special link to the Ramayana, the epic story of Lord Rama and his wife Sita. According to legend, Sita gave birth to her twin sons Lava and Kusha at this place after being exiled by Rama. The temple also has idols of Sita, Rama, Lava, and Kusha in its premises.

The temple is also associated with another legend that involves Lord Krishna and his consort Radha. It is believed that Krishna visited this place with Radha and performed a dance called Raas Leela. The temple has a separate shrine for Radha Krishna where devotees can witness their divine love.

Major Hindu festivals celebrated in the temple are Dussehra, Janmashtami, Rama Navami, and Diwali. A Sawan festival is also celebrated in Durgiana Mandir in the Holy Shravan month of Hindu Calendar where newlywed couples gather at temple to worship Radha Krishna. Women adorn themselves with flower jewellery and worship at temple along with their husbands. Another festival celebrated in Durgiana temple complex is the famous 'Langoor Mela' during 10 days of Navratri and Dussehra.
