Indian-Origin Astronaut Sunita Williams Makes History: Boeing Pilot Flies With Ganesha, Gita & Samosas to Space
“Ganesh has always been in my house. Everywhere I’ve lived, I’ve had Ganesh, and so He had to come with me to space, of course.” Williams also brought along sacred texts connecting her to Indian spiritual traditions “a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads.” And in keeping with her admission that “you can never get enough of Indian food,” the astronaut made sure to include beloved samosas for herself.

*Chennimalai Murugan Temple*
Chennimalai Subramaniasamy Temple is a Murugan temple on a hill located in Chennimalai , Erode District , Tamil Nadu . In this famous temple of India, after anointing Lord Murugan, the miracle of curd does not go sour.
The Chennimalai Murugan temple is built on a hill accessed through a flight of 1000 steps, and through a motorable road. At the bottom of the hill is the Kailasanathar temple, which is the scene for the annual festival here.
This hill also has rare medicinal herbs in its lush green forests. In Devanagiri this hill is called Siragiri and Chenniyangiri. In Tamil it is called Chennimalai.
The main deity Murugan is equated to the Sevvai graham or planet Mars and all the rest of the eight planets encircle the Lord in perfect harmony. If one circumambulates the main deity he is believed to get the benefit of circumambulating the navagrahas and worshipping them.
This temple is said to have been built by Sivalaya Cholan of the Kongu Chola clan. It was renovated later by local chieftains in the area.
The presiding deity here is Subramaniyar, in the form of Dhandayutapani. The image is an unfinished one.
Legend has it that Shanmukhar was enshrined here originally and that it was divinely ordained that Dhandayuthapani should be installed and worshipped. An artiste was asked to complete his unfinished image of Dhandayuthapani for this purpose; local legend has it that when he attempt to chisel at the image, blood gushed out of it and that he was forced to install the image as it was, unfinished below the waist.
*Legend*
A fierce tussle of strength between the wind God Vayu and the serpent king Adi Seshan resulted in the flying off of a few of the peaks of the Himalayas, one of which is Chennimalai. It is believed that Vishnu worshipped this sacred hill in Krita Yuga, when it was then known as Makutagiri, and that it was worshipped by Lakshmi in Treta Yugam when it was known as Kanakagiri and that it was worshipped by the Ashta Durgas in Dwapara Yugam when it was known as Pushpagiri. In the current aeon, it is known as Sirigiri or Chennimalai and it has been worshipped by Siddhars.
Pinnakku Siddhar, one of the 18 Tamil Siddhar is believed to have lived here. There is a shrine to him here. There is also a cave here on the hill, considered to be the abode of Pinnakku Siddhar and this cave is said to have an underground passage leading to the Bhoga Siddhar cave in Palani Malai.
Legend also has it that two princesses Amritavalli and Sundaravalli performed penances to be reborn as Valli and Devasena the consorts of Subramanya.
The holy water for Abisheka is being brought everyday by the temple bulls, which are being maintained by the Devasthanam. This procedure is also a very unique one not found in other temples.
The car festival that comes in the Tamil month of 'Thai' attracts devotees flooding the temple of Lord Muruga.Other important festivals are Chitra Pournami, Kanda sashti, Agni Nakshathram, Panguni Thaer, Chennimalai Mariamman festival, Ekkattampalayam Mariamman festival, and Murungathozhuvu Mariamman festival.

🌹Nandeshvara Mahadeva at Nandagaon
Nandeshwar-Mahadev
The palace of Nanda Maharaja is situated atop Nandeshvara hill in Nandagaon. This hill is a form of Lord Shiva, who performed tapasya for several thousands of years to enter into the Lord Krishna’s pastimes in Vraja. When the Lord was pleased with him Shiva asked for a boon of getting a chance to witness the Vraja pastimes of Lord Krishna by becoming a hill or a stone. Reciprocating with this desire, Lord Krishna granted him this form in Nandagaon.
Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura writes in Vraja-riti-cintamani (1.15):
The devotees declare that Nandisvara hill, the form of Lord Shiva now shining as Nanda Maharaja’s capital, is an endlessly beautiful crown decorating Vrindavana. Lord Shiva has stayed at Nandagaon in the form of Nandeshvara Mahadeva and even today, the carnamrta and maha-prasada of Lord Krishna is first offered to him.

*Sri Mandavya Narayana Swamy Temple- Samarlakota*
Sri Mandavya Narayanaswamy Temple is located in Samarlakota , Kakinada District , Andhra Pradesh . This temple is known as Dakshina Badari, near Kumarabhimaram , Pancharama Kshetra located here.
Sri Mandavya Narayanaswamy temple at Samarlakota on the banks of Tulyabhaganadi, one of the seven branches of the Pawan Godavari river, is highly regarded as 'Dakshina Badari'. This temple is famous as Kongu Bangaram by Korika leader and Kalpavalli by devotees.
The name Mandavya Narayana Swamy is popularly known to the Swami as he was enshrined by Sage Mandavya who did penance in this region known as Dandakaranya region during the Treta Yuga. Legend has it that Sage Mandavya placed a 'Parusavedi' at the foot of the idol during the installation of the idol (anything that touches the Parusavedi turns into gold). Locals narrate that a merchant who noticed the Parusavedi dug up the idol with his 15 followers and was about to burn the Parusavedi when a great serpent appeared at the place and engulfed them with poisonous flames.
Consecrated by sage Mandavya, this temple was built by Vijayaditya, the grandson of the Chola king Pulakeshi II. The history of this temple is that it was built in 655. Subsequently Sri Vijayaditya installed the idol of Sri Mahalakshmi Ammavari in the Bhogamandapa at a distance of ten feet from the idol of Sri Swami. The idol of Goddess Shri Mahalakshmi, seen in Maharaja's dream, was found by fishermen in the sea. There are historical evidences that when the fishermen presented the statue to the king, he enshrined Sri Mahalakshmi Goddess here. Following the Vaishnava tradition, if the goddess is not associated with the Lord, but is consecrated separately, then the goddess is called Veeralakshmi. For that reason, the goddess here can be called as Veeralakshmi. Many inscriptions in Prakrit language are found on the pillars of the temple. This temple stands as a symbol of the artistry, mechanical talent, architecture and technology of the sculptors of that time. During the period between Uttarayana and Dakshinayana, the sunrays falling directly on the feet of Sri Narayanaswamy can be said to be the temple construction skill of that time.
