Ever imagined a temple operating without a matchbox since close to 500 yrs? This is the furnace at Sri Radha Raman Temple, Vrindavana which was lit 478 years ago. The furnace is used for literally everything from lighting the lamp to cooking the Lord's Bhoga. It was lit by Sri Gopal Bhatta Goswami - one of the 7 Goswamis of Vrindavana with the recitation of appropriate mantras. Hence, this temple operates without a matchbox.
Craving some spiritual vibes and a break from the monotony of daily hectic life? Why not visit the 2nd century Kasar Devi Temple, a seat of spirituality with high cosmic energy at an altitude of 2116 meters in Uttarakhand? Located on the earth’s Van Allen Belt, the hilltop temple is surrounded by a massive electromagnetic field due to gaps in radiation – which is in common with Peru’s Machu Pichu and the UK’s Stonehenge. The cosmic enigma of the temple fetched Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Bob Dylan, DH Lawrence, George Harrison from Beatles, and likes from different walks of life to meditate on a 100-million-year-old rock there.
Carved out of a 2000-year-old cave and surrounded by lofty pine as well as deodar trees, the Kasar Devi Temple is the abode of Goddess Katyayani, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. It looks over the scenic landscape of Almora town, gives panoramic views of the Himalayas, and offers absolute serenity. There are several meditation spots and water ponds where devotees take holy dips. The temple is a must visit by hikers, wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, birdwatchers, and those in quest of peace as well as spirituality. Among other places to visit there is Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, a 30-km drive from the temple.
