SEBI Approves NSE's Launch of Futures Contracts for WTI Crude Oil and Natural Gas

Capital markets regulator has approved the National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) bid to launch a rupee-dominated WTI crude oil and natural gas contracts as a part of its commodities derivatives segment.

By way of this approval, the NSE can now list and trade rupee-dominated Nymex WTI crude oil and gas derivative contracts.

Owing to the addition of these contracts, NSE’s product offering will expand when it comes to the energy segment, as well as the overall commodity segment in general.

Here, we must note that the Nymex WTI crude oil contracts, as well as the natural gas contracts, are some of the most frequently traded commodity derivatives contracts.

By way of this announcement, NSE hopes to offer market participants an efficient way to hedge all their price risks, as well as meet their trading goals.

As of 2022, NSE remained the world’s largest derivatives exchange, in terms of trading volume (as per the Futures Industry Association)

*For EV Enthusiasts: Evey Trans Private Limited (EVEY) has received two Letter of Awards (LOAs) from Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) for 550 Electric Buses consisting of 500 Buses for Intra-city and 50 Buses for Inter-city operations, respectively.*



· The value of these 550 Buses supply would be approximately Rs.1,000 Crores for Olectra.

· Maintenance of these buses shall also be undertaken by the Olectra during the Contract Period.

· EVEY has been awarded with two Letter of Awards from TSRTC brief; consisting of 500 Buses for Intra-city and 50 Buses for Inter-city operations, respectively.

· These orders for supply of 500 Electric Buses and 50 Electric Buses are to be on Gross Cost Contract (GCC) / OPEX model basis for a period of 12 years and 10 years (Contract Period) respectively.

· EVEY shall procure these buses from Olectra Greentech Limited ("Olectra") and which shall be delivered over a period of 16 months.

· The value of these 550 Buses supply would be approximately Rs.1,000 Crores for Olectra.

· The transactions between Olectra and EVEY are to be considered as related party transactions and shall be conducted at arm's length basis.

US stocks continued to trade lower ignoring warmer than expected jobs reports over stunning failure of SIVB that rattled investors' confidence. Dow fell 1.06%, S&P lost 1.45% and Nasdaq closed 1.76% lower.

USD index and 10 year closed sharply lower as participants rushed to safety on bank failure news. USD fell near 104.30 and 10 year fell to 3.70%. Also, US 2 year fell the most since 2008. Cboe vix also jumped near 25 as fear gauge rose sharply on worries over contingent.

Crude futures traded in a narrow range, WTI traded near 76, Brent near 82.

Indian stocks continued to slide for the second day in a row on worries over bank failure and aggressive FED rate hike. Sensex lost 672 points and Nifty closed 177 points lower led by BFSI names that got spooked by US news. IT names along with Power stocks saw some gains in an otherwise dull market.

Global market sentiments and key inflation data may dominate trade at the start of the new trading week. Participants may continue to watch out for opportunities outside indices as certain pockets / stocks have started to show signs of major breakout from consolidation /downtrend and hold promise for medium to long term.

Participants may note that the steps taken by US administrators may smoothen the nerves on equity side for the moment but the same doesn't ensure 'all is well' at US banking system. For the immediate term the important factors to watch are US inflation data due tomorrow and day after and FED meet next week, till that point avoid large commitments on either side and look out for breakouts beyond indices / popular names.

During the 1930s, many banks failed in the United States.

In total, it is estimated that over 9,000 banks failed during this period, with most of these failures occurring in the early years of the Great Depression, between 1930 and 1933.

In 2008 we saw all the big banks receive a bailout from the taxpayer.

Today:

The United States 16th largest bank has collapsed, and other regional banks are watching valuations plummet.

While the Federal Reserve's rate hikes have been motivated by a desire to address inflationary pressures, this has helped cause the big banks in the United States to be sitting on $620 billion in unrealized losses.

Why?

Banks purchased lots of Treasuries and bonds when rates were at ZERO.

Coincidently, central banks around the WORLD are now facing significant losses, which will fall on to the taxpayer.

Both Goldman and Barclays say RATE HIKES are OFF the table for March.

When the entire economy is built on cheap money, the blocks are fragile, and with every rate hike, you are pulling at them.

Eventually, things will begin to shake.

This is all happening as more countries seek to trade in local currencies.
