AIRCRAFT ENGINE DRIVEN PUMP

✈️ The engine-driven pump (EDP) in a turbofan engine is primarily used to convert mechanical power from the engine accessory gearbox (AGB) into high-pressure hydraulic power for the aircraft’s hydraulic system.

✈️ How it works

1. The turbofan rotates.
2. Mechanical power is taken from the engine through the accessory gearbox.
3. The gearbox drives the EDP shaft.
4. The pump draws hydraulic fluid from the supply/return system.
5. The pump pressurizes the fluid.
6. High-pressure hydraulic fluid leaves the pump through the pressure outlet.
7. The fluid travels to hydraulic actuators and other aircraft systems.
8. Leakage from the pump shaft/seals is handled through the case/seal drain system.

That number can be extremely important in aircraft maintenance.
