โœˆ๏ธ 6 COCKPIT INSTRUMENTS THAT CAN HELP YOU DURING A PILOT SIMULATION EXAM

If you're preparing for a pilot simulation test, understanding these six basic cockpit instruments is essential. They are often called the "Six Pack" because they provide the pilot with the most important flight information.

๐Ÿ›ซ 1. Airspeed Indicator (ASI)
Shows how fast the aircraft is moving through the air. Maintaining the correct speed is critical during takeoff, climb, approach, and landing.

๐ŸŒ 2. Attitude Indicator (Artificial Horizon)
Displays the aircraft's position relative to the horizonโ€”whether the nose is up or down and if the aircraft is banking left or right. It is one of the most important instruments for controlling the aircraft.

โฑ๏ธ 3. Altimeter
Measures the aircraft's altitude above sea level. Pilots use it to maintain assigned flight levels and ensure safe terrain clearance.

๐Ÿงญ 4. Turn Coordinator
Shows the rate and direction of the aircraft's turn while helping the pilot keep the turn coordinated. It prevents unbalanced turns that can affect aircraft control.

๐Ÿงญ 5. Heading Indicator (Directional Gyro)
Displays the aircraft's current heading. It helps pilots maintain the correct direction and follow ATC instructions accurately.

โฌ†๏ธโฌ‡๏ธ 6. Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI)
Indicates how fast the aircraft is climbing or descending, usually in feet per minute. It helps pilots maintain smooth climbs and descents.

๐Ÿ’ก Simulation Exam Tip:
Don't just memorize the names of these instruments. Learn what information each one provides and when to use it. A good simulator assessment evaluates how well you interpret the instruments not just whether you recognize them.

๐Ÿ›ซ A great pilot doesn't fly by instinct alone. They fly by understanding what the instruments are telling them.

๐Ÿ›ซ ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES TRAINEE PILOT โ€“ SIMULATOR (FTD) ASSESSMENT โœˆ๏ธ

After successfully passing the written exam and competency-based interview, shortlisted candidates are invited for the Simulator (FTD) Assessment, which is an official step in the Ethiopian Airlines trainee pilot selection process.

๐ŸŽฎ What is the Simulator Test?

The simulator is not designed to test your flying experience. Instead, it evaluates your natural aptitude and potential to become a pilot.

During the assessment, examiners may evaluate:

๐Ÿ›ฉ๏ธ Handโ€“eye coordination
๐Ÿง  Ability to follow instructions accurately
๐Ÿ‘€ Situational awareness
โšก Reaction time and decision-making
๐ŸŽฏ Ability to remain calm under pressure
๐Ÿ“ก Instrument scanning and basic aircraft control
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Communication and discipline

๐Ÿ’ก How to Prepare

โœ” Learn the basic six cockpit instruments and what they indicate.
โœ” Watch beginner flight simulator videos to become familiar with cockpit controls and instrument scanning.
โœ” Listen carefully to every instruction accuracy is more important than speed.
โœ” Stay calm. A small mistake is not the end of the assessment.
โœ” Focus on one task at a time and avoid unnecessary distractions.

โš ๏ธ Remember: The simulator assessment is not looking for experienced pilots. Ethiopian Airlines is looking for candidates with the potential, discipline, and aptitude to become professional pilots through training.

๐Ÿ›ซ A calm mind, quick learning ability, and disciplined attitude will take you farther than trying to act like an experienced pilot.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธโœˆ๏ธ ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AT ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES โ€“ WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
One of the most important skills in aviation is English communication. Since aviation is an international industry, Ethiopian Airlines evaluates English proficiency for many training programs and job positions.
๐Ÿ“Š English Proficiency Levels
๐Ÿ”น Level 1 โ€“ Beginner
Can understand and use only simple words and basic expressions. Not suitable for aviation duties.
๐Ÿ”น Level 2 โ€“ Elementary
Can communicate in familiar situations but struggles with longer conversations and technical communication.
๐Ÿ”น Level 3 โ€“ Intermediate
Can communicate in everyday English but may have difficulty expressing complex ideas or understanding fast conversations.
๐Ÿ”น Level 4 โ€“ Operational Level โญ
This is the internationally recognized minimum ICAO operational level for pilots and air traffic controllers. Speakers can communicate clearly in routine and unexpected situations.
๐Ÿ”น Level 5 โ€“ Extended Level
Communicates fluently with very few errors, understands different accents, and handles complex situations confidently.
๐Ÿ”น Level 6 โ€“ Expert Level
Near-native English proficiency with excellent pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
โœˆ๏ธ Which Departments Need Strong English?
๐Ÿ‘จโ€โœˆ๏ธ Pilot Trainees
Generally expected to achieve at least ICAO Level 4 before beginning airline operations.
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โœˆ๏ธ Cabin Crew
Strong spoken English is essential because cabin crew communicate with international passengers every day. Recruitment often includes an English assessment.
๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ง Aircraft Maintenance
Engineers and technicians use English maintenance manuals, technical documents, and aircraft systems. Good reading and communication skills are highly important.
๐Ÿ’ผ Marketing, Customer Service & Ground Operations
Professional English helps when assisting international passengers and working in a global aviation environment.
๐Ÿ’ก How Can You Improve?
๐Ÿ“š Read English books and aviation articles.
๐ŸŽฌ Watch movies and documentaries in English.
๐ŸŽง Listen to aviation communications and English podcasts.
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Practice speaking English every day with friends or language partners.

โ˜€๏ธ Good Morning, Future Aviators! โœˆ๏ธ
"Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors."

Aviation has its own version.

Smooth skies do not make great pilots.
Pilots earn their confidence by training for turbulence, crosswinds, and unexpected situations not just perfect flights.

Your challenges today are preparing you for responsibilities tomorrow.

๐Ÿ›ซ The sky rewards preparation, not excuses.
Have a productive Sunday.

๐Ÿ“ก THE LANGUAGE OF AVIATION โ€“ THE NATO PHONETIC ALPHABET โœˆ๏ธ

Have you ever heard a pilot say "Alpha Bravo Charlie" instead of "A B C"?

That's because aviation uses the NATO Phonetic Alphabet to ensure every letter is understood clearly over radio communications, even in noisy environments.

โœˆ๏ธ A โ€“ Alpha
โœˆ๏ธ B โ€“ Bravo
โœˆ๏ธ C โ€“ Charlie
โœˆ๏ธ D โ€“ Delta
โœˆ๏ธ E โ€“ Echo
โœˆ๏ธ F โ€“ Foxtrot
โœˆ๏ธ G โ€“ Golf
โœˆ๏ธ H โ€“ Hotel
โœˆ๏ธ I โ€“ India
โœˆ๏ธ J โ€“ Juliett
โœˆ๏ธ K โ€“ Kilo
โœˆ๏ธ L โ€“ Lima
โœˆ๏ธ M โ€“ Mike
โœˆ๏ธ N โ€“ November
โœˆ๏ธ O โ€“ Oscar
โœˆ๏ธ P โ€“ Papa
โœˆ๏ธ Q โ€“ Quebec
โœˆ๏ธ R โ€“ Romeo
โœˆ๏ธ S โ€“ Sierra
โœˆ๏ธ T โ€“ Tango
โœˆ๏ธ U โ€“ Uniform
โœˆ๏ธ V โ€“ Victor
โœˆ๏ธ W โ€“ Whiskey
โœˆ๏ธ X โ€“ X-ray
โœˆ๏ธ Y โ€“ Yankee
โœˆ๏ธ Z โ€“ Zulu

๐Ÿ“ก Instead of saying "ET-AVB", a pilot would say:

"Echo Tango โ€“ Alpha Victor Bravo."

๐Ÿ›ซ These words reduce misunderstandings and make communication safer between pilots and air traffic controllers all over the world.
