Here’s something many applicants overlook:

In an interview, the first answer may not be the end of the question.

An interviewer might take your answer and ask:

«“Why?”
“Can you give us an example?”
“What would you do if that happened?”
“What did you learn from that experience?”»

So don't practice only giving a perfect one-line answer.

Instead, when preparing, take every important question and challenge yourself with one follow-up question.

For example:

“Tell us about a time you worked in a team.”

Don't stop at your prepared answer.

Ask yourself:

➡️ What was my role?
➡️ What problem did the team face?
➡️ What did I personally do?
➡️ What was the result?
➡️ What did I learn?

Practice your answers like a conversation, not a speech.

You may forget a memorized sentence under pressure.

✈️ WINGLETS & THEIR DIFFERENT SHAPES

Ever wondered why the tips of airplane wings come in different shapes? 👀

Those fins and curved extensions are called wingtip devices. Their main job is to reduce induced drag caused by wingtip vortices, helping the aircraft fly more efficiently and save fuel. ⛽✈️

But they don't all look the same. Here are some of the most common designs:

🔹 1. Canted Winglets
Angle upward and outward from the wingtip.
✈️ Examples: Airbus A330, A340, A220 & Boeing 747-400

🔹 2. Blended Winglets
Curve smoothly from the wing into the winglet.
✈️ Common on Boeing 737NG
Airbus calls similar designs Sharklets on the A320 family.

🔹 3. Wingtip Fences
Vertical surfaces extend both above and below the wingtip.
✈️ Found on older A320 family aircraft & A380

🔹 4. Split Scimitar Winglets
An upgraded design with an additional lower fin and a reshaped upper tip.
✈️ Seen on some Boeing 737NGs

🔹 5. Advanced Technology Winglets
The 737 MAX uses a distinctive upper-and-lower wingtip design.

🔹 6. Raked Wingtips
Instead of a separate winglet, the wing itself extends outward and sweeps backward to a narrow tip.
✈️ Examples: Boeing 777, 787 & 747-8

🎯✈️ A REAL INTERVIEW TIP — PREPARE YOUR “SMALL STORIES”

Most applicants prepare big answers like:

❌ “Tell us about yourself.”
❌ “Why Ethiopian Airlines?”
❌ “Why should we choose you?”

But here’s a smarter way to prepare:

Prepare 4–5 short real stories from your own life.

For example:

🔹 A time you solved a problem
🔹 A time you made a mistake and corrected it
🔹 A time you worked with someone difficult
🔹 A time you had to learn something quickly
🔹 A time you stayed calm under pressure

Why?

Because one real experience can answer many different interview questions.

The interviewer might change the wording completely, but if you understand your own experience, you can adapt your answer naturally.

Build a small collection of experiences you can explain clearly:

🔧✈️ AMT APPLICANTS — WHAT AIRCRAFT COULD YOU WORK ON?

If you become an AMT at Ethiopian Airlines, you won't necessarily work on just one type of aircraft.

Ethiopian operates different aircraft, including:

✈️ Airbus A350
✈️ Boeing 787 Dreamliner
✈️ Boeing 777
✈️ Boeing 737
✈️ Q400
✈️ Different cargo aircraft

But here's the interesting part 👇

An AMT doesn't just work on any aircraft without proper training. Different aircraft have different systems, procedures and maintenance requirements.

You could be doing line maintenance around an aircraft during its operation, working in the hangar during deeper maintenance, or working with components that have been removed from the aircraft.

The aircraft may look different from the outside, but every one of them demands the same thing from an AMT:

Accuracy. Discipline. And knowing exactly what you're doing.

🔧✈️ AMT TIP — LEARN THE UNITS, NOT JUST THE FORMULAS

A common mistake when preparing for the AMT written exam is memorizing formulas without paying attention to the units.

You might know:

Speed = Distance ÷ Time

But what if the distance is given in kilometres and the time in minutes?

You have to convert the units before calculating.

The same applies to:

⚙️ Force — Newtons (N)
🔌 Voltage — Volts (V)
⚡ Current — Amperes (A)
🛠️ Pressure — PSI / Pa
📏 Length — mm / cm / m

🎯 REAL TIP:

Whenever you solve a physics or mechanical question, look at the numbers and ask:

“Are the units compatible?”

That small habit can save you from losing an easy mark in the exam.

These are the cockpits of two of the biggest passenger jets ever built, the Boeing 747-8 and Airbus A380. Their programs were launched just five years apart, but the flight decks follow very different philosophies.

The 747-8 keeps the traditional control yoke. The two yokes are linked, so each pilot can see and feel what the other is doing. The aircraft is highly digital, but the cockpit still clearly traces its design back to earlier 747s.

The A380 uses sidesticks instead. Pilot inputs go through flight-control computers, and in normal operation the system protects the aircraft from exceeding limits such as excessive angle of attack or bank.

The two A380 sidesticks are not mechanically connected. If both pilots make inputs at the same time, the aircraft warns the crew with a “DUAL INPUT” callout.

Two giant airliners, built around two very different ideas of how pilots should interact with the airplane.
