🔧✈️ AMT TIP — DON’T IGNORE THE “WHY” BEHIND A FAULT
When practicing AMT questions, don't train yourself to only identify what is wrong.
Train yourself to ask:
“What could have caused it?”
For example, imagine an aircraft component is repeatedly showing an abnormal reading.
A beginner might think:
❌ “The component is bad. Replace it.”
But an AMT needs to think deeper:
🔹 Is the component actually faulty?
🔹 Could the wiring or connection be the problem?
🔹 Is the sensor receiving the correct power?
🔹 Could another system be causing the indication?
🔹 What does the approved troubleshooting procedure say?
🎯 REAL TIP FOR AMT APPLICANTS:
Whenever you study a mechanical, electrical or physics problem, don't stop after finding the answer.
Ask yourself:
“What caused this result?”
That habit develops troubleshooting thinking one of the most useful skills you can build before entering aircraft maintenance training.
Don't just find the fault. Learn to understand the fault. 🔧✈️

✈️ NOT EVERY TAKEOFF MAKES NOISE.
Some takeoffs happen quietly.
No runway.
No engines roaring.
No passengers watching through a window.
Just you, sitting somewhere, studying when nobody is checking.
Learning something you didn't understand yesterday.
Getting a question wrong.
Trying again.
Reading one more page when your mind says, “enough.”
That doesn't look impressive from the outside.
But aviation has always been built on things people don't notice:
A calculation checked twice.
A component inspected carefully.
A decision made before the problem becomes serious.
So if your progress feels invisible right now
Good.
Not everything valuable needs an audience.
Build anyway. ✈️

✈️ EVER NOTICED THE TINY TRIANGLE ON AN AIRPLANE WINDOW?
Those little 🔺 black or red triangles aren’t just decoration , they can point to the windows with a particularly useful view of the aircraft’s wing.
👨✈️ FOR THE CREW
They can help identify a good viewing point for checking the wing area, including:
• Ice or frost buildup
• Flaps and slats
• Aileron movement
• Other visible abnormalities
📸 FOR PASSENGERS
These windows can also give you an awesome view of the wing and engine , perfect for aviation photography.
And there’s another reason people like sitting around the wing: the aircraft generally experiences less pitch/vertical movement there than toward the rear, so the ride can feel smoother.
✈️And yes, there’s a pop-culture connection too.
Some aviation fans call it “William Shatner’s Seat”, inspired by The Twilight Zone episode where a passenger sees something terrifying on the wing.

🎯✈️ A REAL TIP FOR YOUR NEXT INTERVIEW-DON'T STOP AT YOUR FIRST ANSWER
Here’s something many applicants overlook:
In an interview, the first answer may not be the end of the question.
An interviewer might take your answer and ask:
«“Why?”
“Can you give us an example?”
“What would you do if that happened?”
“What did you learn from that experience?”»
So don't practice only giving a perfect one-line answer.
Instead, when preparing, take every important question and challenge yourself with one follow-up question.
For example:
“Tell us about a time you worked in a team.”
Don't stop at your prepared answer.
Ask yourself:
➡️ What was my role?
➡️ What problem did the team face?
➡️ What did I personally do?
➡️ What was the result?
➡️ What did I learn?
🔥 TIP:
Practice your answers like a conversation, not a speech.
You may forget a memorized sentence under pressure.
But if you understand your own experience, you can explain it from different angles.
Prepare the answer. Then prepare for what comes after it. 🎯

✈️ WINGLETS & THEIR DIFFERENT SHAPES
Ever wondered why the tips of airplane wings come in different shapes? 👀
Those fins and curved extensions are called wingtip devices. Their main job is to reduce induced drag caused by wingtip vortices, helping the aircraft fly more efficiently and save fuel. ⛽✈️
But they don't all look the same. Here are some of the most common designs:
🔹 1. Canted Winglets
Angle upward and outward from the wingtip.
✈️ Examples: Airbus A330, A340, A220 & Boeing 747-400
🔹 2. Blended Winglets
Curve smoothly from the wing into the winglet.
✈️ Common on Boeing 737NG
Airbus calls similar designs Sharklets on the A320 family.
🔹 3. Wingtip Fences
Vertical surfaces extend both above and below the wingtip.
✈️ Found on older A320 family aircraft & A380
🔹 4. Split Scimitar Winglets
An upgraded design with an additional lower fin and a reshaped upper tip.
✈️ Seen on some Boeing 737NGs
🔹 5. Advanced Technology Winglets
The 737 MAX uses a distinctive upper-and-lower wingtip design.
🔹 6. Raked Wingtips
Instead of a separate winglet, the wing itself extends outward and sweeps backward to a narrow tip.
✈️ Examples: Boeing 777, 787 & 747-8

🎯✈️ A REAL INTERVIEW TIP — PREPARE YOUR “SMALL STORIES”
Most applicants prepare big answers like:
❌ “Tell us about yourself.”
❌ “Why Ethiopian Airlines?”
❌ “Why should we choose you?”
But here’s a smarter way to prepare:
Prepare 4–5 short real stories from your own life.
For example:
🔹 A time you solved a problem
🔹 A time you made a mistake and corrected it
🔹 A time you worked with someone difficult
🔹 A time you had to learn something quickly
🔹 A time you stayed calm under pressure
Why?
Because one real experience can answer many different interview questions.
The interviewer might change the wording completely, but if you understand your own experience, you can adapt your answer naturally.
🔥 DON’T MEMORIZE 30 ANSWERS.
Build a small collection of experiences you can explain clearly:
That gives you something memorization cannot:
flexibility.
And when the interviewer asks an unexpected question, you won't be starting from zero.

🔧✈️ AMT APPLICANTS — WHAT AIRCRAFT COULD YOU WORK ON?
If you become an AMT at Ethiopian Airlines, you won't necessarily work on just one type of aircraft.
Ethiopian operates different aircraft, including:
✈️ Airbus A350
✈️ Boeing 787 Dreamliner
✈️ Boeing 777
✈️ Boeing 737
✈️ Q400
✈️ Different cargo aircraft
But here's the interesting part 👇
An AMT doesn't just work on any aircraft without proper training. Different aircraft have different systems, procedures and maintenance requirements.
You could be doing line maintenance around an aircraft during its operation, working in the hangar during deeper maintenance, or working with components that have been removed from the aircraft.
🔥 ONE THING TO REMEMBER:
The aircraft may look different from the outside, but every one of them demands the same thing from an AMT:
Accuracy. Discipline. And knowing exactly what you're doing.
So while you're preparing now, build your basics in physics, mechanics, electricity and technical English.

🔧✈️ AMT TIP — LEARN THE UNITS, NOT JUST THE FORMULAS
A common mistake when preparing for the AMT written exam is memorizing formulas without paying attention to the units.
You might know:
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
But what if the distance is given in kilometres and the time in minutes?
You have to convert the units before calculating.
The same applies to:
⚙️ Force — Newtons (N)
🔌 Voltage — Volts (V)
⚡ Current — Amperes (A)
🛠️ Pressure — PSI / Pa
📏 Length — mm / cm / m
🎯 REAL TIP:
Whenever you solve a physics or mechanical question, look at the numbers and ask:
“Are the units compatible?”
That small habit can save you from losing an easy mark in the exam.
Don't just calculate the numbers. Understand what the numbers mean. 🔧✈️
