๐Ÿ”งโœˆ๏ธ DID YOU KNOW? โ€” ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES AMTs WORK ON MORE THAN JUST AIRPLANES

When you think about becoming an AMT at Ethiopian Airlines, imagine a much bigger technical environment than simply fixing aircraft.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น Ethiopian MRO was established in 1957 and provides maintenance services for aircraft, engines and components. Its main base is at Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa.

๐Ÿ”ง HERE'S WHAT MAKES IT INTERESTING:

โœˆ๏ธ Different aircraft, different systems
Ethiopian's maintenance organization supports aircraft such as the A350, B787, B777, B737 and Q400, among others.

โš™๏ธ Maintenance isn't only on the aircraft
Ethiopian MRO also has engine and component maintenance capabilities, meaning technicians can work in specialized technical areas beyond routine aircraft inspections.

๐Ÿญ There are six main aircraft maintenance hangars at Ethiopian MRO, including facilities for wide-body and narrow-body aircraft.

๐ŸŽ“ And the training starts before the real job.
Ethiopian's Aircraft Maintenance Training School combines classroom theory with hands-on practical training, with programs including Airframe, Power Plant, Avionics, Structure and Cabin Maintenance.

๐ŸŽฏ FOR AMT APPLICANTS:

Don't look at AMT as simply a job where I repair airplanes.

You're entering a technical field where aircraft systems, engines, components, documentation, troubleshooting and teamwork all come together.

๐Ÿ”งโœˆ๏ธ AMT FACT โ€” WHY AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS HAVE PART NUMBERS

Ever noticed that aircraft components often have codes like P/N 965-0981-001 instead of just a simple name?

That number can be extremely important in aircraft maintenance.

๐Ÿ”น P/N = Part Number
It identifies a specific component or configuration.

๐Ÿ”น Why does it matter?
An aircraft may have many components that look similar but have different specifications, versions, or approved applications.

๐Ÿ”น For an AMT:
Before installing a component, the technician must verify that the correct part and configuration are approved for that particular aircraft and task.

๐Ÿ” REAL EXAMPLE:
Imagine an avionics component is removed from an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft.

An AMT doesn't simply take another component that looks identical and install it.

They need to verify the part number, applicable documentation, condition and installation requirements before returning the aircraft to service.

๐ŸŽฏ FOR AMT APPLICANTS:

Start getting used to one important habit:

Don't identify aircraft components only by appearance. Learn to identify them by their technical information.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธโœˆ๏ธ AMT - AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE CATEGORY

If you're applying for Aircraft Maintenance, your work is closely connected to keeping an aircraftโ€™s systems and components serviceable and safe for operation.

Unlike focusing on only one specialized area, Aircraft Maintenance can involve understanding different maintenance tasks across the aircraft.

๐Ÿ”ง What you should build now:
โ€ข Basic aircraft systems knowledge
โ€ข Mechanical reasoning
โ€ข Hand tools and their uses
โ€ข Basic electricity
โ€ข Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
โ€ข Inspection and troubleshooting
โ€ข Technical English
โ€ข Reading and following maintenance instructions

๐Ÿ’ก REAL EXAMPLE:

Suppose an aircraft has a problem with a component that is not operating correctly.

An AMT may need to understand the reported problem, inspect the system, use the correct tools, follow approved maintenance information, carry out the required task, test the result and document the work.

๐ŸŽฏ For Aircraft Maintenance applicants:
Don't try to become an expert before training. Build strong fundamentals now especially mechanics, physics, electrical basics and troubleshooting.

๐ŸŒโœˆ๏ธ DID YOU KNOW? โ€” ETHIOPIAN CABIN CREW TRAIN WITH PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Ethiopian Airlines isn't only training cabin crew for Ethiopian passengers.

In January 2026, Ethiopian Aviation University graduated 284 cabin crew trainees from a class that included students from 12 different countries.

That means future Ethiopian cabin crew can train and work in an environment where different languages, cultures and ways of communicating are part of everyday aviation.

And this is important because Ethiopian's official cabin crew program specifically includes working with people from diverse cultures, as well as communication, Crew Resource Management (CRM), leadership and customer service training.

๐Ÿ”ฅ HERE'S THE INTERESTING PART:

When you become cabin crew, you're not simply learning how to deal with passengers.

You're learning how to work with different personalities, different cultures and different crew members sometimes thousands of kilometres away from home.

๐ŸŒ For future Ethiopian cabin crew:
Your ability to communicate respectfully with people who are different from you is not just a โ€œnice skill.โ€

It's part of the job.

๐Ÿ”งโœˆ๏ธ AMT TIP - GET USED TO READING TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

If you're preparing for an AMT career, don't focus only on physics, mathematics and mechanical reasoning.

Start becoming comfortable with technical drawings and diagrams.

You may see:

๐Ÿ“ Dimensions
๐Ÿ”ฉ Component locations
โ†”๏ธ Measurements
๐Ÿ”ง Assembly details
๐Ÿ“‹ Symbols and technical information

๐Ÿ’ก Why is this useful?

Aircraft maintenance involves working with technical information, and a drawing can communicate details that words alone cannot.

๐ŸŽฏ WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW:

Find basic mechanical drawings online and practice identifying dimensions, symbols, parts and their positions.

You don't need to become an expert now.

Just build the habit of looking at a technical drawing and asking:

โ€œWhat is this showing me?โ€

That mindset will help you when the technical work gets more advanced. ๐Ÿ”งโœˆ๏ธ

โœˆ๏ธ HOW MANY PHASES ARE THERE IN A FLIGHT?

A flight isn't simply takeoff โ†’ cruise โ†’ landing. Aviation can divide a flight into several phases, depending on the purpose and system being used.

๐Ÿ›ซ 1. Pre-flight / Ground - Aircraft preparation and checks
๐Ÿš• 2. Taxi - Moving from the stand toward the runway
๐Ÿ›ซ 3. Takeoff - Aircraft accelerates and leaves the runway
โฌ†๏ธ 4. Initial Climb - Climbing after takeoff
โฌ†๏ธ 5. Climb - Continuing toward cruising altitude
โœˆ๏ธ 6. Cruise - Main portion of the flight
โฌ‡๏ธ 7. Descent - Leaving cruise altitude
๐ŸŽฏ 8. Approach - Setting up for landing
๐Ÿ›ฌ 9. Landing - Touchdown and deceleration
๐Ÿš• 10. Taxi-in / Shutdown - Moving to the stand and preparing the aircraft after the flight

๐Ÿ”ง AMT TIP:
Different flight phases place different demands on aircraft systems. Understanding these phases helps future AMTs connect aircraft operation with maintenance and system behavior.

โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿ” DID YOU KNOW? โ€” WHY ARE AIRCRAFT WINDOWS SO SMALL?
Have you ever wondered why aircraft windows aren't much bigger? ๐Ÿ‘€
It's not simply about giving passengers a better view.
Every window creates an opening in the pressurized fuselage, which interrupts the aircraft's structure. Larger openings generally require more structural reinforcement around them.
๐Ÿ”ง Bigger windows = more reinforcement = more structural weight.
Aircraft designers therefore have to balance:
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Passenger visibility

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Structural strength

โš–๏ธ Aircraft weight

๐Ÿ’จ Cabin pressurization
That's also why aircraft windows have rounded corners rather than sharp corners. Rounded shapes help reduce stress concentrations around the opening.
๐Ÿ’ก AMT TIP:

For an AMT, even something that looks as simple as a passenger window involves structure, materials, pressurization and safety.
In aviation, small design details can have a BIG engineering reason behind them. โœˆ๏ธ

๐Ÿ”งโœˆ๏ธ AMT STRUCTURE โ€” A SMALL CRACK CAN BE A BIG DEAL

If you're interested in Aircraft Structure, one thing you should understand early is that structural maintenance isn't simply about fixing visible damage.

An aircraft structure must carry loads safely throughout its operation.

๐Ÿ” A structural technician may need to look for:

โ€ข Cracks
โ€ข Corrosion
โ€ข Dents and deformation
โ€ข Damaged fasteners
โ€ข Composite damage
โ€ข Signs of fatigue

๐Ÿ’ก REAL EXAMPLE:

Imagine a small crack is found around a fastener hole on an aircraft structure.

An AMT can't simply say, โ€œIt's small, so it's safe.โ€

They need to determine the location, size, type and allowable limits of the damage using approved maintenance data before deciding what action is required.

๐ŸŽฏ FOR STRUCTURE APPLICANTS:

Build your foundation in:

โš™๏ธ Forces & stress
๐Ÿ”ฉ Materials & fasteners
๐Ÿ“ Technical drawings
๐Ÿงช Corrosion
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Basic structural repair principles

In aircraft structure, small details can carry enormous responsibility.

Ethiopian Airlines has officially ordered eight 777-8 Freighters, becoming the first African airline to order the newest member of the 777X family.

The confirmed order marks a major step in the airlineโ€™s long-term cargo expansion. The 777-8F will join Ethiopianโ€™s established Boeing freighter fleet and support its growing network across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Built for demanding long-haul cargo operations, the 777-8F can carry up to 118 tonnes of structural payload, combining high capacity with long-range capability and improved fuel efficiency. It also retains important commonality with the 777 Freighter, including the ability to accommodate large outsize cargo.

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates 12 Boeing 777 Freighters, and these eight new 777-8Fs will bring the airlineโ€™s next-generation 777X technology into its cargo operation.

Eight 777-8Fs. One major milestone for Ethiopian Airlines and a new chapter for the 777X in Africa. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡นโœˆ๏ธ
