The 2024 Nobel Prize in Medicine has been awarded to *Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for their groundbreaking research on microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation. This research unveiled a new class of tiny RNA molecules that play a crucial role in controlling gene activity. Their research revealed an essential mechanism governing gene expression, now recognized as vital for the development and functioning of multicellular organisms, including humans.
This year’s Nobel Prize carries an award of 11 million Swedish crowns. The Nobel Prizes, established by Alfred Nobel, are considered among the most prestigious global recognitions for achievements in science, literature, and humanitarian efforts. Since 1901, the prizes have been awarded 621 times to nearly 1,000 individuals and organizations.
