✔️Why in the news: A team of scientists from the Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) has discovered a new species of frog, named Raorchestes asakgrensis, in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya.

Eman Asakgre Community Reserve, Garo Hills, Meghalaya


✔️ Name Origin:
It is named after the Eman Asakgre Community Reserve in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya, acknowledging the local community’s contributions to conservation

✔️Characteristics:

Possesses a pointed snout and a visible tympanum.

Male frogs measure around 20.49 mm in snout-vent length, while females are slightly larger, measuring approximately 22.8 mm
