Global Biofuels Alliance launched at G20 ๐
๐India on Saturday launched the Global Biofuels Alliance, with
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging Gยญ20 nations to join the initiative with a plea to take blending of ethanol with petrol to 20% globally.
๐Besides India, the initiating members include Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Italy, Mauritius, South Africa, the UAE and the U.S. Canada and Singapore are observer countries.
๐Our proposal is to take an initiative at a global level to take ethanol blending in petrol up to 20%
๐Alliance, is focused on securing the supply of biofuels, ensuring these biofuels remain affordable and are produced sustainably.
๐GBA would help to accelerate global efforts to meet net-zero emissions targets by facilitating trade in biofuels derived from sources including plant and animal waste.
๐Biofuel is a renewable source of energy which is derived from biomass. It can be solid, liquid and gaseous and produced from organic matter in a short period of time.
๐India, which imports over 85 percent of its crude oil needs, is gradually building capacity to produce fuel from such items as crop stubble, plant waste, and municipal solid waste
๐The cost involved in biofuels is lesser when compared to other sources like petrol and diesel. India plans to build 12 bio-refineries to produce fuel from items including crop stubble, plant waste and municipal solid waste.
๐India is targeting to become carbon neutral by 2070 and is expanding use of biofuel in its transport sector.
