What is a Solar Observatory?
☀️A solar observatory is a facility or institution dedicated to observing and studying the Sun.
☀️These observatories use specialised telescopes and instruments to observe various phenomena on the Sun's surface, in its atmosphere, and in the surrounding space.
☀️Phenomena Studied:
Solar Cycle, Sunspots ,Solar Dynamo ,
Solar Flares, Coronal Mass Ejections,
Differential Rotation, Plasma Physics.
☀️India has several astronomical observatories, including solar observatories.
1.Indian Astronomical Observatory, Hanle
2.Vainu Bappu Observatory, Kavalur
3.Kodaikanal Solar Observatory
4.Ooty Radio Telescope, Ooty
5.Udaipur Solar Observatory
6.ARIES Observatory, Nainital
7.Mount Abu InfraRed Observatory (MIRO)
8.Astronomical Observatory, Nainital

The Other Global Efforts and Missions to Study the Sun
☀️India’s Aditya-L1 Mission:Aditya- L1 is the first space-based observatory class Indian solar mission to study the Sun from a substantial distance of 1.5 million kilometres.
☀️NASA’s Parker Solar Probe: It aims to trace how energy and heat move through the Sun’s corona and to study the source of the solar wind’s acceleration
It recently made a 1st-of-its-kind observation within a coronal mass ejection.
☀️Helios 2 Solar Probe: The earlier Helios 2 solar probe, a joint venture between NASA and the space agency of erstwhile West Germany, went within 43 million km of the Sun’s surface in 1976.
☀️Solar Orbiter: A joint mission by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA), Solar Orbiter aims to study the Sun’s polar regions and its magnetic field. It provides unique perspectives by observing the Sun from different angles

Crop Diversification in India
🌾West Bengal farmers are shifting from wheat cultivation to more lucrative options like bananas, lentils, and maize, especially in border districts like Murshidabad and Nadia.
🌾Reasons Behind the Shift from Wheat Production:
Wheat Blast Disease ,Economic Viability(higher profitability compared to wheat) , Shift to Higher Output Crops (higher per-hectare output and demand from poultry and food processing industries) ,Pulses and oilseed production.

Why Botswana threatened to send 20,000 elephants to Germany
Botswana has an elephant problem — there are simply too many of them. That is why, when Germany proposed to enact stricter limits on import of hunted trophies, Botswana’s president clapped back.
Context: IMD warns of more tornadoes in West Bengal after a recent one killed 5 and over 100 injured in Jalpaiguri.
