If aim and ambitions ( not just exam , it's more than that and may be in terms of developing something big in terms of evolving technology ) are priority in life then other things are always secondary and must be secondary.

Time , energy, investment are time dependent and generally these things are lower as per duration so it's good to be clear in terms of needs and necessities at first rather than tagging things as a ' dating ' or ' relationship ' as in 21st century different people having different priority and any single person may be/may not be someone's priority. This must be cleared to the romantically evolved people.

Generally, it's always good not to date someone who have big aims ( again not any exam ,it's more than that ) and ambitions to fulfill in life as ambitious people are like that only who prefer to be more mechanical instead of being available all time & in every thing. People derive their own expectations from other's life or in today's time from social media and that's why things are generally same in terms of how people see relations ( personal and professional both ) but as everyone is different then it's good to make it sure as well before becoming part of any tag. Also , not everyone is there to be self dependent or empower , many are good with being dependent and they must be like the same instead of rat race of anything ( but they are part of rat race because of inferiority complex due to the surrounding around them including close one ).
