🆕 News ✍️- Sakurajima volcano in Japan erupted on May 15, 2025

🌀Sakurajima is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes.

⚡Located on Kyushu island, about 4 km from Kagoshima City.

⚡Elevation: 1117 meters; Circumference: ~50 km.

🌟A stratovolcano on a convergent plate margin, formed from lava and ash layers.

⚡Formed on the south rim of the Aira Caldera; has two peaks – North and South.

⚡Was an island until 1914; an eruption connected it to the mainland.

⚡Constantly emits smoke; minor eruptions occur several times daily.

Eruptions are explosive, releasing ash, pyroclastic flows, volcanic bombs, and toxic gases.

🌟Lava type: Andesitic – high gas content and very viscous.

✨Recent eruption sent ash plume 3,000 meters above the crater.
