So India and Pakistan are rivals. India and China are competitors. India and Russia are strategic partners. Russia is almost an ally of China. China has Pakistan, a former US ally, in its pocket. Pakistan has a booming relationship with Turkey. Turkey, a member of Nato, is a treaty ally of the US. The US has a vibrant strategic, economic and defence partnership with India, while Pakistan, where the man who attacked New York was found and killed by the US, moved away from America's orbit. But the US continues to hyphenate India, a partner, and Pakistan, which is armed by China, its most powerful geopolitical rival, and Turkey, a treaty ally. This is the strategic picture of today's world.
