INS Nirdeshak, the second ship of the Survey Vessel (Large) project, was commissioned into the Indian Navy today at Visakhapatnam by Raksha Rajya Mantri. Built with over 80% indigenous content by GRSE, this advanced vessel is equipped with cutting-edge hydrographic systems like Multi-Beam Echo Sounders, Side Scan Sonars, AUVs, and ROVs. It will play a pivotal role in hydrographic surveys, navigation, deep-sea operations, and environmental studies, boosting India’s maritime capabilities.

• IUCN: Data Deficient.

NEELAKURINJI 🪻🌿

Nilgiri Hills which literally means the blue mountains, got their name from the purplish blue flowers of Neelakurinji that bloom only once in 12 years.

Primarily found in the Western Ghats, particularly in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, & Karnataka.
However, Neelakurinji can also be seen in the Shevroy Hills of the Eastern Ghats

Listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species

The flower has no smell or any medicinal value. ✖️

Paliyan tribal people living in TN use this flower bloom as reference to calculate their age.
