⚡️Kolar Leaf-nosed Bat

The Kolar leaf-nosed bat is a species only found in India that is at extremely high risk of extinction.

These bats live in just one cave in the Kolar district of the Indian state of Karnataka. There are only about 150-200 mature, adult Kolar leaf-nosed bats left in the world.

That is why the International Union for Conservation of Nature has officially declared this a “critically endangered” species.
The bats inhabit shrublands and caves in their small native range.

They face threats from:
Mining and quarrying activities in the region
Logging and deforestation removing their habitatAgricultural and forestry pollution seeping into their cave home

⚡️Fan-throated lizards

The new species has been named 'Sitana dharwarensis' - derived from the Dharwar craton- a piece of the Earth’s crust that dates back to 2–3 billion years ago, according to a press statement released in Mumbai.

The new species is quite similar to a species of fan-throated lizard called Sitana laticeps, however, the new species bears a much larger throat fan or dewlap.

They are found only in the Indian subcontinent, where they have evolved under the influence of changing climates.
Female lizards do not have a fan, while male lizards inflate their neck pouch to attract the female in the summer season.
