MEA Confirms India as Headquarters for Biofuel Alliance


Establishment of the Secretariat

The agreement enables the GBA to set up its Secretariat in India, staffed by a mix of Indian and international personnel.

This establishment will facilitate the GBA in achieving its goals related to biofuel promotion and development.

Legal Status and Immunities

The HCA grants the GBA legal status, including privileges and immunities under the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities) Act of 1947.

This provision ensures that the GBA can operate smoothly while adhering to Indian laws.

Launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance

The GBA was launched on September 9, 2023, during India’s G20 Presidency, initiated by the Indian Prime Minister and leaders from eight other countries.
Founding members include Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Italy, Mauritius, Singapore, the UAE, and the USA.
