πZimbabwe plans to cull 200 elephants, targeting regions with high human-elephant conflicts like Hwange National Park.
πNamibia has already culled 160 wildlife animals, including 83 elephants, as part of a planned reduction exceeding 700.
πBoth countries have elephant populations exceeding their ecological carrying capacity.
Pros:
β‘Culling could help manage overpopulation and reduce human-elephant conflicts.
Meat from culled elephants could be used to aid food-insecure communities.
Unchecked elephant populations can severely damage ecosystems and affect other species.
Cons:
β‘Culling is controversial and could harm tourism industries that rely on elephants as a major attraction.
Critics argue for more sustainable wildlife management practices that prioritize living elephants.
Culling entire herds can cause post-traumatic stress for surviving animals.
πPast culling operations in Zimbabwe killed over 50,000 elephants between 1965-1988.
:β -β ) Culling is often a short-term solution, and translocation or birth control may be preferable long-term options.

The answer is not to continue expanding reservations. The answer is for our political leaders to realise that for India to ever become a fully developed country the most vital change that must happen is for Indiaβs children to have access to real schools.

Someone needs to tell this lady that everyone with even the slightest bit of sense and more than two braincells knows reservations are a band-aid "fix", and definitely not a sustainable one for any nation. We know it, Politicians know it, but caste politics is their golden ticket to easy votes, far more convenient than focusing on actual development and progress. From the very start, reservations have been the lazy shortcut for politiciansβan easy way out rather than doing the real, hard work of addressing systemic issues.
If you're serious about uplifting marginalized communities, then the answer lies in providing accessible, affordable education and skill development programs from the start, not in handing out reserved seats in universities or jobs. Reservations might have a place early on to help level the playing field, but by the time youβre at graduation or employment, they become completely unjustifiable. Giving quotas at the end just undermines the very idea of equality and merit. Start strong, build capacity early, and you wonβt need to artificially level the field at the finish line. Only by doing this, can the "marginalised" and the nation truly prosper.
