The Indian government is exploring the establishment of a mega shipbuilding park through discussions with coastal states during the 20th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) meeting.

This initiative aims to enhance domestic shipbuilding capabilities and integrate resources across regions.

State Involvement: Coastal states have expressed strong interest in supporting maritime development, with Andhra Pradesh offering approximately 20,000 acres for shipbuilding projects.

National Shipbuilding Policy: The Centre is preparing a national shipbuilding policy and a Rs 30,000 crore maritime development fund to support these initiatives.

Support Measures: States are encouraged to conduct feasibility studies, identify suitable locations, and provide land and capital support for shipyards, along with subsidies for MSMEs.

the meeting led to the establishment of the Indian International Maritime Dispute Resolution Centre (IIMDRC) in Mumbai, aimed at enhancing maritime dispute resolution capabilities in India

The Great "Reverse Flip"

In a recent turn of events, Indian companies that once set up shop abroad are now making their way back home.

This "ghar-wapsi" (homecoming) of brands is not just a cultural sentiment; it's a strategic business move shaped by a combination of favorable market conditions, regulatory changes, and a surge in domestic investor participation.

What is Flipping?

-Flipping is when an Indian company transforms into a 100% subsidiary of a foreign entity after it has moved its headquarters overseas, including a transfer of its intellectual property (IP) and others.

-It effectively transforms an Indian startup into a 100% subsidiary of a foreign entity, with the founders and investors retaining the same ownership via the foreign entity, having swapped all shares.

What is Reverse flipping?

-Reverse flipping is the process of shifting the domicile of an Indian company back to India after it had moved its headquarters overseas, usually for tax or regulatory reasons. It is also known as โ€˜re-domicilingโ€™.

-This strategic move is fuelled by India's flourishing economy, a huge market, promising venture capital, favorable tax structures, robust intellectual property protection, young and educated population and supportive government policies.
