Union home minister Amit Shah announced that Andaman and Nicobar Island's capital Port Blair has been renamed as "Sri Vijaya Puram."

"Andaman & Nicobar Islands have an unparalleled place in our freedom struggle and history. The island territory that once served as the naval base of the Chola Empire is today poised to be the critical base for our strategic and development aspirations,” he added.

“It is also the place that hosted the first unfurling of our Tiranga by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ji and also the cellular jail in which Veer Savarkar Ji and other freedom fighters struggled for an independent nation,” Shah added.

High ranking cities in Swachhata ranking to now compete in new category ‘Golden Cities Club’

⭐ After getting the cleanest city tag seven consecutive times, Indore and some other traditionally high performing cities such as Surat and Navi Mumbai, won’t be allowed to compete with other cities in the annual Swachhta ranking.

⭐ The top rank holders for consecutive three years will be put in Golden Cities Club category and they will work out a matrix based on the past three years’ trends.

⭐ Once any city in the Golden Cities Club performs poorly, it will be taken out from the list and it will end up competing with the large number of cities in the Swachh Survekshan.

My argument is that just like Indore is no longer to be considered in competition for ‘cleanest cities’ (bcoz it continuously gets first rank)

On the same logic, UPSC should prohibit the past toppers from reappearing in the exam to upgrade their service from IPS/IRS/IIS etc to IAS.

Otherwise, they are just grabbing the seats and unemployed people are sitting at home. Because UPSC is not always operating the buffer list in efficient manner.

- 3 out Top-5 rankers in UPSC-2023 are actually ex-IPS topper from earlier exam.
- IFS (foreign service) officers are required to resign before reappearing in the exam, but this will not applicable for IPS/IRS etc.
