New smart sensor for adjusting drug dosage to manage Parkinson’s

⭐ Scientists at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) developed a smartphone-based fluorescence sensor for managing Parkinson's disease.

⭐ The sensor detects L-dopa levels, crucial for controlling Parkinson's, by using nano-layered silk protein and graphene-based quantum dots.

⭐ It provides accurate, on-the-spot detection of L-dopa in blood plasma, sweat, and urine, with a mobile app analyzing RGB values.

⭐ This innovation helps in adjusting L-dopa dosage, potentially improving patient outcomes, especially in remote areas.

⭐ Parkinson's: is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement, causing symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. Occurs due to the loss of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain.

⭐ L-dopa: is a medication used to treat Parkinson's. It's a precursor to dopamine, meaning it can be converted into dopamine in the brain, helping to alleviate symptoms.
