India's retail inflation slows to 3.5% in July, falls below RBI's target for the first time in 5 years
Retail Inflation:
β Retail inflation in India is primarily measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks changes in the price level of a basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households.
β CPI is published by the National Statistical Office (NSO) and covers various categories such as food, fuel, housing, clothing, and miscellaneous items.
β The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has set a medium-term inflation target of 4% with a tolerance band of +/- 2%, which guides monetary policy decisions.
β There are four types of CPI:
Compiled by the labour bureau:
-CPI for Industrial Workers (IW).
-CPI for Agricultural Labourer (AL).
-CPI for Rural Labourer (RL).
Compiled by NSO under MoSPI:
-CPI for Urban Non-Manual Employees (UNME).
β The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) uses CPI data to control inflation. In April 2014, the RBI adopted the CPI as its key measure of inflation.

According to the 2011 Census, India's population stood at
121.1 Crore, with 48.5% being female.
By 2036, it is expected to
reach 152.2 Crore, with a slightly improved female percentage of
48.8% (Table 1.1).
The proportion of individuals under 15 years is
projected to decrease from 2011 to 2036, likely due to declining
fertility.
Conversely, the proportion of the population aged 60
years and above is anticipated to substantially increase during
this period (Table 1.2).
So, the population pyramid will undergo
a shift as
121.1 Crore, with 48.5% being female.
By 2036, it is expected to
reach 152.2 Crore, with a slightly improved female percentage of
48.8% (Table 1.1).

Conversely, the proportion of the population aged 60

So, the population pyramid will undergo
a shift as
the base of the pyramid in 2036 would narrow down,
while the middle would be broadened. This is true of both the
sexes.
