IAS officer Supriya Sahu won "The Champions of the Earth 2025" award, UN’s highest environmental honour. She has been selected in the “Inspiration and Action” category for her long-standing work on environmental challenges in India and received the award in Nairobi. Sahu currently serves as Additional Chief Secretary in Tamil Nadu government’s Department of Environment, Climate Change, and Forest.

Vijay Diwas or Victory Day is commemorated on December 16, marking the end of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and the liberation of Bangladesh. India declared victory after Pakistan signed the Instrument of Surrender.
On December 16, 1971, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the chief of the Pakistani forces along with 93,000 soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army and the Mukti Bahini in Dhaka after defeat in the war.
Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw played a crucial role in India’s victory against Pakistan. 'You surrender or we wipe you out' was the message given by him to Pakistan on December 13, 1971.
