🗓️ The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9, 2025, in Bhubaneswar.
🌏 Theme: Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.
Significance:

📅 January 9 commemorates Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa in 1915.
🎖️ Held biennially to honor the contributions of the Indian diaspora to their homeland.
Indian Diaspora:

🌍 The diaspora includes 3.5 crore Overseas Indians, categorized as:
Non-Resident Indians (NRIs): 🌐 Indian residents abroad.
Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs): 🛂 Foreign nationals of Indian origin with OCI cards.
Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs): 👥 Merged with OCI in 2015.
History and Origins:

🕰️ The idea for PBD was proposed by the High-Level Committee on Indian Diaspora (2002), led by L.M. Singhvi.
📜 First celebrated in 2003, and since 2015, the event has been held biennially.

Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award:
🏅 The highest honor for Overseas Indians, recognizing contributions to India's global standing and diaspora welfare.
👑 In 2025, 27 awardees will be honored by President Droupadi Murmu.
Diaspora Statistics (2024):

USA: 🇺🇸 54 lakh, UAE: 🇦🇪 35 lakh, Canada: 🇨🇦 28 lakh, Saudi Arabia: 🇸🇦 24 lakh.
