What is Ethanol?

⛽ Ethanol, or ethyl alcohol, is a renewable biofuel derived from plants. Though less energy-dense than gasoline, ethanol has been used as fuel since the 19th century and can be produced from agricultural byproducts and organic waste.

Ethanol is also present in alcoholic drinks (beer, wine, spirits) when diluted. It is used as a topical agent to prevent skin infections, in pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. rubbing compounds, lotions, tonics, colognes), cosmetics, and perfumes.
