Australia is considering restricting social media for younger users and is planning an age verification trial. The proposed age limit for social media access is expected to be between 14 and 16.

Should India adopt similar measures, given the increasing concerns about online child grooming on platforms like Instagram and Facebook and the rising societal issues related to this?

How we discovered a new type of wood - and how it could help fight climate change
https://theconversation.com/how-we-discovered-a-new-type-of-wood-and-how-it-could-help-fight-climate-change-236618

Midwood Classification:
A new wood type called "midwood" was identified, which has macrofibrils between those of hardwoods and softwoods.

Carbon Sequestration:
Tulip trees (Liriodendron tulipifera) can store two to six times more carbon than other species, enhancing their role in climate change mitigation.

Climate Change Implications:
Planting tulip trees could significantly aid carbon capture efforts, making them valuable for environmental conservation.

Research Techniques:
Advanced imaging methods (cryo-SEM) were used to study the wood's structure and its evolutionary adaptations.

🌽 Cultivating maize on drained peatlands for biomethane production emits three times more COβ‚‚ than the emissions avoided by not using natural gas.

βš—πŸ§ͺThe carbon released from drained peatlands during cultivation outweighs the benefits of using biomethane as a renewable energy source.

πŸ”‹πŸͺ«The growing proportion of drained peat soils dedicated to bioenergy rather than food production is a concern.

πŸ₯ƒFirst-generation biofuels can reduce GHG emissions by 20-60%,while
🍺second-generation biofuels can achieve reductions of 70-90%,
excluding land-use change effects. However, some biofuels may emit more GHGs than fossil fuels due to the energy-intensive processes involved.

PM Modi inaugurates SEMICON India 2024, tells top chip execs India will support industry at every step.

⭐ Semicon India 2024: With the theme "Shaping the Semiconductor Future."

⭐ India's Semiconductor Vision:
-The government has been promoting its "Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem" program to position India as a leader in semiconductor technology.

-India aims to reduce dependency on imports, especially from Taiwan, and develop indigenous capabilities.

⭐ Key Investments:

- The Indian government has approved three major semiconductor fabrication plants with an investment of β‚Ή1.26 lakh crore. These units will be set up in Gujarat (Dholera and Sanand) and Assam (Morigaon), creating around 20,000 direct jobs and 60,000 indirect jobs.

-This initiative will strengthen India’s position in key sectors like defense, telecommunications, and EV manufacturing.

⭐ Global Significance:
- The semiconductor industry has become a geopolitical battleground, with countries like the US and China ramping up investments.

-India's strategic focus is on developing older technology nodes (28 nm), which will serve various industries including automotive, telecom, and defense.

⭐ Challenges:
- Despite progress, India faces challenges such as competition from countries offering better incentives.

-A shortage of skilled labor for semiconductor manufacturing

- limited original R&D in chip design.

These developments are part of India’s long-term vision for self-reliance in advanced technology, vital for the country’s digital and defense futures.

Semiconductor:

⭐ A semiconductor is a material with electrical conductivity that falls between that of a conductor (like copper) and an insulator (like rubber). Its ability to conduct electricity can be altered by introducing impurities (a process called doping), making it ideal for controlling electrical currents.

⭐ Semiconductors form the basis of electronic components like transistors, diodes, and integrated circuits, which are critical in devices such as computers, smartphones, and solar cells. Common semiconductor materials include silicon and gallium arsenide.

Chandrayaan-3 has made a historic first by detecting over 250 seismic signals from the Moon’s south pole

πŸš€ The significant findings were detailed in a recent paper published in ICARUS, Authored by ISRO researchers from the Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS) in Bengaluru.

πŸš€ The Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA), which was part of the Vikram Lander, recorded these seismic events from coordinates 69.37Β° S and 32.32Β° E

πŸš€ Out of the 250 signals detected, around 200 were related to the activities of the mission itself.

πŸš€ Researchers identified about 50 instances where the seismic signal amplitude significantly deviated from the expected background levels, possibly moonquakes.

πŸš€ The study highlights a notable discovery: the longest continuous seismic signal recorded lasted 14 minutes, opening path for more reasearch.

Chandrayaan-3

πŸš€Chandrayaan-3, launched by India on July 14, 2023, is the country’s third lunar mission, designed specifically to achieve a soft landing on the Moon’s surface.
