Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 🇧🇷 : Browning Automatic Rifle among weapons recovered from gang’s fortified bunker

Operations by the Military Police in the Coreia favela of the Senador Camará complex recovered a large quantity of drugs, 16 rifles and a .30 caliber Model 1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR).

The weapons were found inside a fortified bunker hidden below the floor of a home in the region, which is dominated by the Third Pure Command (TCP).

Much like the Madsen machine gun, the M1918 BAR is another relic from the past which is still very much alive in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

Slide 3 shows a TCP gang member with another BAR, rocking an iron man paint job on the magazine. The star of David pendant represents the Israel troop based in the Israel complex, which is TCP territory.

Slides 4 and 5 feature another BAR with members of the Red Command’s Bear Troop, as shown by the magazine. It has been updated with a foregrip. Also note the grenade resting on the gang member’s plate carrier in slide 5.

Bogotá, Colombia 🇨🇴: Kamikaze fiber optic FPV drone discovered just miles away from major Air Force base

Yesterday, authorities discovered and disarmed an explosive laden FPV drone, acting on prior intelligence of a potential launch site. This launch site was just 5.4 Km away from the Military Transportation Air Command (CATAM), which is a major airfield for Colombia’s Aerospace Force.

The drone was found with the battery unattached and fitted with a large fiber optic spool (potentially 8 or 10km spool). It was loaded with 258g of C4 plastic explosive, using a syringe as a detonator, which is a common theme for IEDs in Colombia.

The drone is believed to have been used by FARC guerrillas from the Carlos Patiño front.

The use of kamikaze drones in the capital is a significant escalation, paired with the use of fiber optic spools which can evade electronic warfare measures. This is the third known case of a fiber optic drone being used by Colombian irregular armed groups in just the last two weeks.
