Rio de Janeiro 🇧🇷: Drones carrying grenades used to attack militia territory

Last night, drones carrying grenades, believed to be piloted by members of the Red Command (CV) in Gardênia Azul, were used to attack the Rio das Pedras neighbourhood, which is a militia stronghold.

At least two drones were used in the attacks (one source said as many as five), injuring two people and causing damage to a local bar.

Slide 2 shows a grenade which failed to detonate during the attacks. Still intact, the drone operator possibly failed to remove the pin. Conversely, a large number of grenades used by criminals in Brazil are craft made and inherently less reliable.

This is the one of the first drone attacks in Rio de Janeiro since the October 2025 “mega operation” against CV in the Penha and Alemão complexes. During the operation, which left 132 suspected CV members dead, drones with explosives were used to delay initial movements of the Military Police.

The new patches of CJNG Grupo Delta

Slide 1 shows a member of CJNG’s Grupo Delta wielding an M249 SAW. The patch on his plate carrier is notable, reading D-502.

These numerical patches belonging to Grupo Delta sicarios have been observed in the last few months.

Slide 2 shows a Grupo Delta “Explosivista”, responsible for the fabrication and use of improvised explosives, landmines and drone drop munitions, as well as EOD roles. He can be seen with a D-506 patch on his helmet.

Slide 3 features a Grupo Delta drone operator, as shown by his patches, which both feature D-06. His hat is also notable, reading “Grupo de Choque” (shock group, essentially a strike team) belonging to Delta 1 (Armando Gómez Nuñez), leader of Grupo Delta who was detained in Zapopan in December 2025.

Most likely, these numbers are simply callsigns, rather than the actual number of sicarios in Grupo Delta. However, some of the numbers seem pretty random, such as D-418 or D-372 (slides 4 and 5).
