How a former BOPE operator trained gang members 🇧🇷

In March 2025, former BOPE operator Ronny Pessanha was arrested during Op Containment, aimed to weaken criminal operations in RJ. He was suspected of handling logistics for gangs and money laundering through his security company, Skull 47 (his BOPE callsign) Group .

Investigation of his devices found evidence Pessanha offered his services to CV, training gang members in weapons handling. He would reportedly charge up to R$1500 ($290)/hour.

Pessanha was in contact with CV traffickers Corolla (jailed) and Paulista, the boss of Penha. Slide 4 shows Pessanha (black shirt) with Corolla, running rifle drills. Slide 5 shows Corolla training on a treadmill with a rifle.

This was not his first controversy, Pessanha was arrested in 2020 for links with militia groups, reportedly forcing residents from their homes. After spending over a year in prison, he was kicked out of BOPE in 2022. After this prison sentence he aligned with CV to provide tactical training.

Catatumbo 🇨🇴: Seven ELN guerrillas killed in joint military/police operation

A joint operation in the Tibú and Tarra region killed seven ELN guerrillas and one detained. A total of 15 rifles and six handguns were recovered. An FN 5.7 was among the pistols, known locally as “Matapolicias” (cop killers) for their propensity to penetrate soft body armour.

205 kg of explosives were recovered as well as 202 modified drone drop explosives.

A Chinese SkyFend Spoofer counter-UAS system was recovered, which can spoof GNSS (not just GPS but also other navigation systems such as Russia’s GLONASS) signals up to 2000m. A pair of PVS-7 night vision goggles were also recovered, as well as a Starlink terminal.
