Lima, Peru 🇵🇪: Extortionist accidentally blows himself up
On Sunday evening, there was an explosion outside of a hardware store in Comas, Lima.
Shortly after two men arrived by motorcycle, one dismounted with an explosive device, which detonated before he could throw it. His body was thrown by the explosion, the getaway driver quickly fled the scene.
He was taken to hospital, dying of his injuries shortly after. The dead extortionist has since been identified as 18 year old Pedro Franzua Arellano Solís, from the nearby Collique sector.
Analysis of his devices revealed extortion calls and pictures of multiple businesses, likely potential targets for future extortion. Two accomplices have also reportedly been identified.
According to PNP general commander Óscar Arriola, he miscalculated the wick time of the explosive, causing it to detonate in his hands.
Use of explosives by criminals is pretty common in Peru. They use grenades and sticks of domestically produced dynamite to target businesses/homes.

Combat between the Carteles Unidos and CJNG in Michoacán
Slide 1 shows an assault by members of the United Cartels (CU) against a CJNG position somewhere in Michoacán in June, likely to be the outskirts of either Los Reyes or Cotija.
Notably, the assaulting team are wearing duct tape arm bands for friendly force identification. The point man is also carrying an extra belt of ammunition for the M249 gunner.
Slide 2 shows the CJNG position after it was overrun, made out of sandbags. They recovered weapons, tactical gear and supplies (food, water). At least three CJNG sicarios were killed as seen in the footage.
Also of note, the CU sicarios appear to have recovered commercial emulsion explosives (slide 3), used for mining operations. This will be used to manufacture IEDs and/or drone drop munitions, for which Michoacán is one of the epicentres.
Slides 4-6 show one of the sicarios who participated in the assault, note the distinctive scarf.

Loot drop: Gente del Guano sicarios examine disabled enemy vehicle
Shown here are members of the Gente del Guano (GDG) looting an enemy “monstruo” (monster) up-armoured vehicle that was previously disabled.
The monstruo itself is a very typical design, a civilian vehicle up-armoured with sheet metal. There is a turret up top and extra protection for the wheels.
Among the charred remains of the vehicle was a Browning M1919 machine gun, a system frequently used by cartel monstruo turret gunners.
GDG is under the command of El Guano (Aureliano Guzmán Loera), the brother of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. The Gente del Guano are active primarily in Durango and Sinaloa, where they were sent to Chapo’s hometown of Badiraguato to reinforce the Chapitos against the Mayiza faction.

A Mayiza sicario in San Ignacio, Sinaloa with a full spectrum SkyFend C-UAS kit
The anti-drone gun seen is a SkyFend Hunter, which can jam drones up to 3000m away. It features a touchscreen which allows for better direction finding by the operator. It has quickly become a favourite for cartels.
On his back, a SkyFend Spoofer, which is a GNSS (not just GPS but also other navigation systems such as Russia’s GLONASS) spoofer which can set up area denial no-fly zones for UAVs. According to SkyFend it can cover a distance of 2000m with 100% success.
In his left hand is likely a SkyFend Guider, a C-UAS monitoring platform which can integrate radars, detectors and jammers. The Guider uses AI and machine learning to run 24/7 and minimise human error, according to SkyFend.
The Mexican military also operate the SkyFend Hunter. It is definitely a level above the typical anti-drone guns seen in use by cartels. These systems are much more expensive, with the Hunter and Spoofer costing around $100k a piece.
