The water spirit called Wata or Mammy Wata, it is a water spirit known & celebrated in the West, Central, and Southern Africa, in the African diaspora in the Americas Mani Wata is also known & praised. Mami Wata spirit usually appears as a female, but sometimes others say it appears as a male with a snake tail at the bottom part. Mami Wata often appears as a huge snake only or a human figure holding snake in a dream. However, there are those that see Wata with their naked eyes when they visit rivers & oceans.

In several other African cultures where they also regard snakes as protectors, bringers of new babies, or fertility, as guardians of the earth Mami Wata is venerated as a goddess. Traced back to the earliest of African societies as recorded, the stories of Mami Wata & traced in ancient records of its existence to more than 4000 years ago, it is here that the colonisers began to look for Mami Wata in rivers & oceans. In Nguni language it is called Inkosazana yamanzi, Sepedi it is called Mmamokebe or Mmamogashwa. Many healers are still initiated in this spirit in rivers & waters.

Next time you have a dream of huge waters & a snake-like-human figure; that is Mami Wata, paying you a visit.πŸ§œπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ§œπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ§œπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
