Continued….Activists also have said the Rwanda scheme violates the core principle of the 1951 Geneva Convention, which states that no refugee be returned to a country where their safety and freedom cannot be ensured. While it has stopped deportations, the apex court's ruling leaves the UK's politics in tatters, in the same week Sunak sacked former Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

Let us know what you think of the ruling.

SIAD BARRE ON ISRAELI OCCUPATION

Prominent Africans have long been warning of the dangers of Israel’s policies.

In this 1979 address to the UN General Assembly, then-Somali president Mohamed Siad Barre told the world that the Israeli seizure of Arab lands in 1967 and subsequent establishment of permanent settlements in these regions would have dire consequences for peace.

Today, Israel says its current war in Gaza is a justified response to the October 7th Hamas atrocities. Many Africans and others think that’s too simplistic - and ignores the fact that Tel Aviv has mistreated Palestinians for decades, including in the way Barre described. October 7th, they argue, was itself a ‘response’ in a long-running conflict.

Perhaps if the world listened more to African voices it would be a better place. Tell us if you agree.

SOUTH AFRICAN DIPLOMAT: LET PALESTINIANS PICK OLIVES

Drawing from shared experiences of settler colonialism, apartheid and racism, South Africans have long empathised with and defended Palestinians. In this 3 November 2021 video, South African diplomat Lesiba Machaba stands up for Palestinian farmers who are being harassed by an Israeli soldier simply for picking olives in the town of Tuqu’ southeast of Bethlehem. According to the mayor of the town, Tayseer Abu-Mefreh, Machaba went to pick olives alongside Palestinian farmers when they were met with tear-gas canisters and stun grenades. They were then forced to leave at gunpoint. Abu-Mefreh, alongside three other Palestinians, were briefly held by the soldiers for daring to pick olives. Another olive picker was later detained for his participation.

Continued….Even though Tuqu' is a Palestinian town located in the West Bank, the Palestinian National Authority has no control over the administrative and civil affairs of 98.5 per cent of the land. This is due to an Israeli law that classifies various parts of the West Bank as 'Area C,' meaning Israel-controlled territory. Over 60 per cent of the West Bank falls under this category, making Palestinian movement off limits or heavily restricted.

Let us know what you think.

THE NEGLECTED SIEGE IN SUDAN

Reports say Sudanese people are being starved to death, beaten, tortured and killed in one town allegedly held siege by the paramilitary Rapid Security Forces. The group rivals the Sudanese Army, both of which have fought in the streets since April after its transitional governing body's relations appeared to have melted down.

Here's what's happening and let us know what you think.

BASSEM YOUSSEF ON RACISM AGAINST ETHIOPIAN JEWS

Egyptian comic Bassem Youssef can get very serious when he wants. Here he tells Uncensored host Piers Morgan how African women have faced barbaric forms of state racism - in Israel. Specifically, he’s talking about Ethiopian Jews who immigrated to the Middle Eastern country. There, they were regularly injected with contraceptives - without their knowledge or consent. The administered shot stops menstruation and can cause serious fertility problems down the line. Israel eventually owned up to this, and Youssef says the fact it ever happened shows that the Israeli state is inherently racist - it doesn’t want darker-skinned, African Jews to breed. And that same kind of racism, he claims, is now driving the carnage in Gaza. He ends by reminding the Brit Morgan that this kind of racial superiority complex is nothing new - by quoting some bad old Winston Churchill at him. Has Youssef hit the nail on the head?

WHITE SUPREMACY AND NARCISSISM

White supremacy is an offshoot of narcissism - that’s the thesis put forward here by social media strategist Erin. It helps explain why former colonial powers often find it so difficult to admit they did wrong - because it means they can no longer admire themselves when they look in the mirror (and narcissists only want to admire themselves!). It also explains why they find it so difficult to condemn those who commit the same crimes as themselves. Could that be why Britain and the US are so staunchly behind Israel right now? Hear @erinraii out and let us know in the comments if you agree with her.

SISTER’S FURY OVER GAZA UNLEASHED IN DC

The sheer level of anger at the war in Gaza - and at US support for it - was on display outside the Democratic National Committee HQ in Washington DC on Thursday, where pro-Palestinian protesters clashed with police. Amid chaotic scenes, the demonstrators tried to block the entrance to force the politicians inside to speak to them, but lawmakers were evacuated from the building.

The fury can be seen in this clip of a young African sister in America who was at the rally. In a tirade, she lashes out at the US police and its collaboration with the IDF and at the US military aid that’s helping to sustain Israel’s catastrophic war, which has cost so many innocent lives already and left so many people in the midsts of a humanitarian catastrophe.

As Martin Luther King put it, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

ZAMBIAN SOCIALIST LEADER JAILED

Fred M’membe, president of Zambia’s Socialist Party, has been arrested on espionage charges. According to Zambia police, M’membe unlawfully passed on information to a foreign power. The charges relate to his appearance in a Zimbabwean state broadcaster’s political documentary, in which M’membe accused Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema of being a Western stooge.

However, M’membe an avowed socialist and Pan-Africanist, says the charges are the Zambian government’s attempt to silence him for speaking out against the neo-liberal policies it is implementing at the behest of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

DRC’S PROBLEMS ARE A CREATION OF THE WEST

To make sense of the ongoing crisis in DRC, one needs to look back over a century. The DRC is in turmoil because it is very wealthy, not poor, and the chief culprit is the West. Starting with King Leopold’s genocide of millions of Congolese people, all the way to the CIA-backed assassination of DRC’s Lumumba, the country has had a boot put to its neck by imperialists seeking to loot its vast riches. African Stream was invited to appear on George Galloway’s Mother Of All Talk Shows to shed light on the current situation and the various intrigues surrounding it. Watch our man William Sakawa tell it like it is.

JOHN HENRIK CLARKE : AFRICAN SUBJECTS VS US CITIZENS

Dr. John Henrik Clarke, pioneer of Africana Studies, speaks on the importance of maintaining our African identity and why our sense of self must be tied to a land base.

As the largest empire in human history, the United States has invested billions of dollars and what seems to be countless time and energy into promoting the idea of the ‘American melting pot.’ That regardless of where we come from, what culture we practice or how we even got to be in the United States, we allegedly are part of one big American family. On the other hand, life for African people in the United States suggests otherwise, as Africans confront racism embedded in every US institution, including schools, hospitals, housing and policing.

In this video, Clarke reminds us that we must tie our identities and destinies to the continent of Africa.

Can Africans be ‘Americans’? Let us know in the comments.
