Continued…..The author is not the first to be shocked at the situation in the occupied West Bank. Human rights groups, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, as well as UN experts have all called the Israeli status quo in the occupied Palestinian territories an apartheid system of governance. Today, as the people of Gaza witness what has been called by many a genocide, the people of the Occupied West Bank are also suffering.

There’s a grim contrast in the West’s reaction to children dying in conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. In the first three weeks of war, Israeli strikes killed 4,000 youngsters, according to UNICEF. That’s six times higher than total child fatalities in Ukraine, where fighting has raged for over a year and a half.
The sheer scale of atrocities being committed by Israel was recently laid bare by US senator Chris Van Hollen. In this clip, during a hearing on additional US military assistance, he whizzes through numbers which should ‘shake us to the core.’
But the cold reaction of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is almost as alarming. His response represents that of many Western leaders. But we shouldn't forget these are the same people who, at the start of the Ukraine war, shouted themselves hoarse about the need to protect civilians. Smaller nations, like Estonia, even pushed for a no-fly zone - though it never happened.

Continued….Compare that to their reaction over the current destruction of Gaza.Palestine has no army, navy or airforce and has little to shield itself from relentless strikes by Israel. Despite that, the West has wholesale supported Tel Aviv’s bombardment, vetoed calls for a ceasefire and passed a motion granting Israel a fresh $14 billion to continue its aggression. Most of the bombs dropped on Gaza’s defenseless population are made in the US.

A common criticism of the Black Lives Matter slogan is that it itself is racist - that the slogan should be: ALL Lives Matter. But the issue isn’t as black and white (pun intended) as all that. In the context of Africans in America, history is the crucial factor.
In this clip, late US activist and YouTuber Sandra Bland (responding precisely to comments on her page that actually ALL lives matter) points out that, when you look back, Black lives have never mattered in America - not since they were forcibly brought there from Africa. Bland herself would go on to become a victim of the brutality of the systemic oppression and violence that Africans in America are subjected to on a daily basis.
On July 10th, 2015, she was stopped by a White police officer for changing lanes without signalling. She was arrested during the stop for allegedly assaulting the officer who had stopped her.

Continued….Three days later, she was discovered dead in her cell. Police claimed that it was death by suicide, but this claim was disputed by her family and friends, who suspect foul play. It’s rolled out a $1,130 fee for most Africans transiting through the country’s airports. Indian travellers will also be discriminated against and subject to the same charge.
The Central American nation says the collected funds will go towards improving airport infrastructure - but it fails to explain why only Africans and Indians are being forced to cough up for this.
The discriminatory fee was unveiled shortly after a visit by the US Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs. That’s led to speculation that it’s real purpose is to deter migrants using El Salvador as a platform to reach the US-Mexico border, where crossings are rising.
That doesn’t explain why Africans have been singled out, though. While the share of Africans making the journey through Central America into the US has grown, it’s still relatively small.
Perhaps Washington wants to nip this trend in the bud. But it’s a clear sign that anti-African racism is driving policy.

Palestinian solidarity marches have been commonplace across Africa with sights from Cape Town to Cairo and now Nairobi.
However, the Kenyan leg has not been as smooth. Dozens of placard-wielding demonstrators calling for a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian question were arrested on Thursday. It follows last month’s police raid on private premises where Pro-Palestinian supporters had gathered.
Kenya has had close relations with Israel across all administrations. For example, in 1976, Kenya allowed Israel to use its territory to carry out an operation in Entebbe, Uganda, to free captured Israeli hostages.
Today, Kenya still maintains ties in agriculture, security and trade, with bilateral deals with Israel totalling $500m in 2022.
