FATIMA BERNAWI AFRO-PALESTINIAN FIGHTER

On November 3rd 2022, the people of Palestine mourned the loss of Fatima Bernawi. Bernawi was an Afro-Palestinian woman, born in Jerusalem to a Nigerian father who fought to liberate Palestine during the 1936 Great Palestinian Revolt and a Palestinian mother whose life was turned upside down as ethnic cleansing became the law of the day in 1948. One might be able to see why Fatima Bernawi grew up to become the first Palestinian woman to organise a military campaign and the first Palestinian woman imprisoned by the Israeli Occupation Forces.

NKRUMAH’S DAUGHTER STANDS WITH PALESTINE

Ghana is adding its voice to millions of others around the world calling for a just and lasting solution to the Palestine question.

Protesters gathered 2 November at a major interchange named after Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first Pan-African president and prime minister. Attendees of the rally in the capital city of Accra included Nkrumah’s daughter, Samia, who condemned Israel killing civilians in Gaza. Many other voices came together, isolating that of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who came under fire for voicing support for Israel, as it carries out indiscriminate bombing of civilians in the densely populated Gaza Strip for the third week in a row.

As of press time, Israel has killed more than 9,000 civilians in the 7.5-mile-wide and 25-mile long enclave that borders Egypt and the Zionist state of Israel.

Continued…..Many have described the Gaza Strip as an open-air prison or a concentration camp. It is home to more than 2 million people, half of whom are under 18 years old. Israel’s attacks have targeted sites, such as hospitals and refugee camps. Most United Nations member-states have condemned Israel in a UN General Assembly resolution, but the United States blocked two UN Security Council resolutions in mid-October that would have alleviated Palestinian suffering.

However, it goes beyond the UN. The bombs dropped on Gaza are US-made. The United States funds Israel to the tune of $3.8 billion annually and has been the largest funder of the Zionist state since after World War II. Anti-Israel sentiment, as well as Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment (BDS) activism, are heavily censored and punished in US society. As international outrage grows, however, it remains to be seen whether that will make the US government yield.

BLACK PANTHER ON ARMED SELF-DEFENCE

The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 had a profound impact on many young Africans in America, and shook the civil-rights movement to its core.

Those who had looked up to King and his philosophy of non-violence began questioning its effectiveness as a means of achieving racial equality. They felt that years of peaceful resistance had failed to end the brutality and discrimination they faced.

This led to the emergence of more militant and confrontational movements within the civil-rights struggle, such as the Black Panther Party. In this clip, co-founder Bobby Seale advocates armed self-defence and community empowerment.

THE AFRICAN HOLOCAUSTS

Do you know about the African holocausts? Author and historian Dr Yosef Ben Jochannan breaks them down. In his 1972 speech, he addressed the atrocities and genocide of Africans during the pre-colonial period. Belgium’s King Leopold II, the United Kingdom’s Cecil Rhodes, among others, murdered millions of Africans who lived in present-day Congo and South Africa. However, the accounts of their killings had not been recorded, so many people know only about one holocaust that occurred in Europe.

PUPPET SHOW TAKES ON APARTHEID ISRAEL

Many refuse to accept Israel is practicing apartheid against the Palestinian people. This comes despite credible organisations, such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, calling Israel an apartheid state and comparing Israel to apartheid-era South Africa.

It is also important to remember Israel does not only share similarities with the South African apartheid regime. During the apartheid era in South Africa, the two states had a strong military collaboration, in which Israel supplied South Africa with equipment that was used to suppress Black South Africans. Tel Aviv also helped the regime circumvent international sanctions that had been imposed to bring down the apartheid system.
