*PARENTING IN ISLĀM* 🍼

When it comes to parenting, we must remember that every human being is flawed—sinning daily, having shortcomings, and making mistakes. It is upon everyone to acknowledge and own these imperfections, whether they are adults or young adults. No one is perfect—not parents, not children or young adults.

Parents have their tendencies, and children or young adults have theirs.

Allāh ﷻ has placed a great responsibility on parents when their children are young, such as raising them, teaching them manners, and protecting them from harm. However, the ultimate outcome of that upbringing rests with Allāh alone.

Given that, the guidance, piety, truthfulness, and honesty of our children—or their absence—are solely in Allāh’s hands. How children conduct themselves, whether in the presence of their parents or behind their backs, is determined by Allāh ﷻ.

It is upon the parents to do their best with the limited knowledge and abilities they have been given, fearing Allāh concerning the trust He has entrusted to them.

Nevertheless, parents are human and will make mistakes, wrong judgments, or even commit outright wrongs regarding their children. Perfection belongs only to Allāh. Parents depend on Allāh ﷻ and seek His aid in raising their children because no success will occur in this endeavor except through His assistance and blessings.

Knowing this important point prevents parents from becoming conceited about their skills if they see goodness in their children, for it is Allāh who granted them success. Conversely, if parents see undesirable traits in their children, despite their efforts and teachings, they must recognize it as a test from Allāh. Whether it reflects their own shortcomings or not, it is still a test. Allāh has already informed us that He will test us with our wealth and our children.

If we fall short in our responsibilities, we must return to Him in repentance. If we witness good in our children, we should be grateful to Him and avoid the arrogance of thinking our children are better than others. It is all a test.

The proof of that is that Allāh tested the Prophet Lut with his wife, Nuh with his son, and Ibrahim with his father. All of them went to great lengths in nurturing, advising, and guiding to the best of their abilities. The Messenger of Allāh (peace be upon him) was tested with his uncle as well.

All that said, as long as we have life, we have the opportunity to repent and make du'a for ourselves and our children. There is no sin or shortcoming too great that Allāh will not forgive. The door of repentance is open, and we must rely on Allāh’s mercy and kindness. It is not for us to lose hope in Allāh's capabilities.

If we despair of Allāh's ability to forgive, it implies that we consider Him weak—a description He is far removed from. No matter the source of our mistakes, Allāh ﷻ is The All-Forgiving, and we should never give up hope as long as Allāh grants us another day.

Parents often burden themselves with guilt over their children's wrongdoings; this is natural. However, Allāh has assured us that no one will be held accountable for the sins of another. Additionally, parents should avoid comparisons and excessive praise of their children. Each parent faces their own test through their children, and to Allāh will all return—parents and children alike.

🌷Encouragement to Be Gentle
with Women

Abu Hurairah (may Allāh be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allâh (peace be upon him) said:

Treat women with kindness, for a woman was created from a rib. The most curved part of the rib is its upper part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it. If you leave it alone, it will remain curved. Therefore, treat women with kindness.
📕(Bukhari & Muslim)

✏️ Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (may Allāh have mercy on him) explained:

This hadith encourages gentleness with women, as this is the best way to win their hearts and gain their affection. It also teaches us to be patient with their mistakes and overlook their shortcomings, for attempting to change them completely will only lead to harm. A person cannot do without a wife, who serves as a companion and a helper in daily life. Therefore, patience and kindness are essential.

And I would like to add;

That this is from the best means of upbringing your children in a household filled with harmony, love and gentleness between the parents.
It indirectly teaches the child how to be. The children are positively affected by it. The children then also practice overlooking, gentleness and patience with each other.
Perhaps an aggressive and argumentative child is as a result of the fathers not having gentleness with their wives and vice versa.

🌟 *The Best Among You*

The Messenger ofAllāh (peace be upon him) said:

"The best of you are those who are best to their families (in treatment, conduct, and speech)."

📌 Note:
From the statement of the Messenger, we benefit the emphasis Islaam places on treating family members with kindness and respect. This is considered the foundation of virtue and true success. What is the benefit of being esteemed in the eyes of people while your family suffers from abusive, harsh, and inconsiderate treatment? If you do not bring happiness to your parents and family, this will only lead to your misfortune, even if the whole world is pleased with you.
